Lehigh Rolls Past East Stroudsburg in Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's basketball team dominated East Stroudsburg 78-42 in the season opener Monday night at Stabler Arena.Â
The Mountain Hawks are 1-0 for the sixth straight season.Â
While Lehigh ended up with a 36-point win, Lehigh got off to a slow start. Remi Sisselman scored the first points for Lehigh with 6:24 remaining in the first quarter.
The Mountain Hawks had a 10-9 advantage after the first quarter. Lehigh was just 4-of-15 from the field after the first 10 minutes.Â
Sisselman, who got Lehigh started, scored a game-high 17 points. Sisselman's 17 points were just one point shy of a career-high.Â
First-year Jessie Ozzauto put Lehigh up 14-13 with 7:39 to go in the second quarter, and the Mountain Hawks would continue to hold the lead for the remainder of the game.Â
Lehigh's defense limited East Stroudsburg to just six points in the second quarter. Lehigh's offense also found its rhythm in the second quarter as Lehigh shot 8-of-19 from the field.Â
The Mountain Hawks ended the second quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 32-15 lead at halftime.Â
Lehigh continued to pick up the momentum in the second half, scoring six straight points to open up the third frame. The Mountain Hawks held a 56-22 lead at the end of the third quarter.Â
Jamie Behar knocked down a three-pointer to give Lehigh a 39-point lead, which was the biggest lead of the game for Lehigh. East Stroudsburg ended the game on a 24-15 run.
Monday's game marked a milestone for many players as Jessie Ozzauto, Whitney Lind, Julianna Ouimette and Kamara St. Paul all recorded their first career points.Â
Ozzauto finished with 11 points, Lind had nine points, Ouimette scored six points and St. Paul finished with two points. Ouimette also had dished out a team-high of four assists.
Ella Stemmer also had 11 points.Â
Gwenn Sabato and Corrin Gill both had seven points to lead the way for the Warriors.Â
The Mountain Hawks shot 44.4% from the field (28-for-63). Lehigh was also 7-of-24 from beyond the arc. 42 of Lehigh's 78 points were scored in the paint. Lehigh's defense also forced 27 turnovers on Monday.Â
East Stroudsburg was 15-of-56 from the field (26.8%).
Next up, Lehigh will travel to Easton, Mass. to take on Stonehill on Saturday at 2 p.m.Â
