PRINCETON, N.J. – Lehigh rowing hit the water on Sunday morning against outside competition at the Princeton Chase. Women's rowing competed in the openweight 8+ while the men's team competed in the heavyweight 8+.
The women's team came in 36th place out of 57 competing teams, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:00.199. The Mountain Hawks placed first amongst Patriot League teams, beating out Loyola by 12 spots. Steven J. '69 and Karen A. Lee head rowing coach Peter Costas was very pleased with what he saw from his women's squad at Princeton.
"Really excited about the performance," said Costas. "The crew showed improved confidence in a challenging environment, executed an aggressive race plan, and looked technically sharp crossing the line. We accomplished the goals we set going into the weekend."
The men's team placed 28th in a pool of 38 boats in the heavyweight 8+.
"The guys had a goal to race the first half especially hard," said Costas. "They found themselves side by side with a couple really fast crews and responded well under pressure. It's a great sign to be able to maintain composure in an intense race situation."
"The men's team showed a lot of promise with the row today," said sophomore Zachary Wexler. "We made improvements on time and placement since the Chase last year. Gearing up now for the Bucknell invitational next weekend."
"We kept our composure under somewhat adverse conditions," said first-year Andrew Lundgren. "Looking forward, we need to row with more length at higher rates to be competitive with better crews."
Both men's and women's rowing will be back in action on Saturday, November 11 for a dual meet against fellow Patriot League side Bucknell. The races will take place in Lewisburg.
