Lehigh Records First Clean Sheet of the Season in 0-0 Tie

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's soccer battled Loyola to a 0-0 draw Saturday evening at a wet and rainy Ulrich Sports Complex.

"A point is a point," said head coach Dean Koski. "Especially when you're home, you want to try and grab three points, but it was our first clean sheet of the season, and I thought defensively, we were much more organized and more structured. We didn't give them many good looks at goal."

The Mountain Hawks are now 2-7-5 (1-3-2 PL) and the Greyhounds are 4-1-8 (4-0-2 PL). Loyola sits at the top of the Patriot League with 14 points. Lehigh is tied for seventh with five points.

This game marked the first clean sheet of the season for Lehigh and the first clean sheet since the Mountain Hawks defeated Lafayette 1-0 on Oct. 8, 2022. Senior goalkeeper Blake Koski started for the first time since Sept. 19. Koski tallied three saves on Saturday.

"It was definitely good to get Blake and Sam back," Koski said." I think we made a step in the right direction. We competed as a group, which I wanted us to do, and we played as a team, which I wanted us to do. In moments, we probably gave away the ball too quickly - we could have been a little more patient at times, but I felt it was a positive step for us."

Loyola's Dylan Van der Walt did not have to make any saves as Lehigh had zero shots on goal. The Greyhounds outshot Lehigh 13-4 on Saturday. Loyola had three corner kicks while Lehigh had one.

Lehigh will close out the non-league schedule with a game against Penn on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Philadelphia.

"This is the time of the year where you want to be consistent, the time of the year where you want to be really good defensively and the time of the year you want to be healthy, and I think we are getting close to that," Koski said. "We know Penn is going to be a good team for us - we know they're a good team, so it will give us a chance to rest some guys, and we have to make sure our sights our set on American, who in spite of their record, is a good team and one of the better teams in the league."
