Mountain Hawks Travel to Annapolis for Patriot League Contest with Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's basketball team remains on the road as they make the trip down to Annapolis for a Patriot League contest against the Navy Midshipmen on Sunday, Jan. 8 inside Alumni Hall.

Lehigh (6-8, 1-2 PL) enters the game coming off a 72-64 victory over Bucknell on Thursday, Jan. 5, that featured two 20-point performances from sophomore Tyler Whitney-Sidney and senior Evan Taylor. Whitney-Sidney reached a career-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals while Taylor scored 20 points and led the Mountain Hawks with eight boards. The Mountain Hawks shot a season-best 54 percent from the floor and claimed their first league win and second victory on the road this season.

Three Mountain Hawks are averaging at least 13 points per game, led by Taylor who has contributed 14.0 points with 5.4 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Keith Higgins Jr. averages 13.9 points per game and 2.3 assists per contest while Whitney-Sidney is scoring 13.0 points per outing, and a team-leading 25 steals and 2.4 assists per game, along with 4.9 rebounds

Navy (8-7, 1-2 PL) is entering Sunday's game on a two-game losing skid, including opening league play with a pair of losses to Colgate (87-73) and Holy Cross (74-63). The Midshipmen's last win came over Boston University (75-58) when they opened Patriot League action with a win. Navy and Lehigh do not have any common non-league opponents, but both squads have fallen to Colgate. The Midshipmen are led by Tyler Nelson, who is scoring 13.5 points per contest, bringing down 5.9 rebounds a game, and leads the squad in steals (15) and blocks (11). Daniel Deaver is also scoring in double-digits with his 10.5 points per game and leads Navy in assists with 47 and is bringing down 5.6 boards per game.

Navy leads the overall series with a record of 53-34 and is 6-4 in the last 10 meetings. Lehigh claimed both meetings last season, sweeping the Midshipmen in the regular season, including overcoming a 17-point deficit inside Stabler Arena on Feb. 2, 2022.
The Mountain Hawks return home on Wednesday, Jan. 11 when Lehigh welcomes Holy Cross to Stabler Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
