Lehigh To Open Fall Season At Hornet Classic At The Creek

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team opens its fall season this Monday at the Hornet Classic at the Creek in Rehoboth Beach, Del. The two-day tournament will be hosted by Delaware State University at Kings Creek Country Club.
Lehigh head coach Mary Kate Lynch will begin her sixth season leading the women's golf team. This year, the roster consists of nine athletes as three seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and two first-years are set to head out onto the course.
Returning seniors for the Mountain Hawks are Hannah Foster, Marina Mendez Legarra and Iris Shin, while the junior class includes Meghna Grover and Sophia Taverna. Sophie Chang and last season's rookie stand-out Madison Pineda return for their second year on the course. Evelyn Wong and Yuki Zhu are the newcomers to the roster.
Last fall, the women's golf team opened their season on a strong note with a second place finish at the Bucknell Invitational. Pineda led the Mountain Hawks as the team's top finisher in their first three matches of the season. Pineda also opened Lehigh's first tournament of the spring with an individual finish of sixth place.
The Mountain Hawks finished fourth at the Patriot League Championship last spring with a final team total of 956. Pineda tied for third place overall and earned first-team All-Patriot League honors. Pineda was voted the Patriot League Rookie of the Year by the league's head coaches.
Foster, Shin, Grover and Taverna all participated in last year's Patriot League Championship along with Pineda.
Lehigh's lineup for the Hornet Classic at the Creek will feature Pineda, Zhu, Taverna, Shin and Wong. Foster will compete as an individual.
The Kings Creek Country Club plays at 5925 yards to a par 71.

Following the Hornet Classic at the Creek, the Mountain Hawks will travel to Annaplois, Md. for the Navy Fall Invitational on Oct.1-2. After a brief break, Lehigh is scheduled to participate in the SHU Fall Classic in Milford, Conn. the weekend of Oct. 16-17. The Mountain Hawks will close out their fall season hosting the Lehigh Invitational at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem from Oct. 24-25.
