Lehigh Falls In First Road Contest Sunday At Temple

PHILADELPHIA – Playing in its first road game of the 2022 season, the Lehigh field hockey team fell 6-0 to Temple Sunday at Howarth Field. The Owls had six different goal scorers to win their second straight to start the season. Lehigh was held without a shot or a corner in the first half and picked things up in the second half, but the Mountain Hawks were unable to find the back of the cage as they fall to 0-2.
 
Temple finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corners.
 
Julianne Kopec opened the scoring just over five minutes into the contest and Temple added two more goals in the second quarter to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.
 
Myrthe Schuilenberg made it a four goal lead for Temple in the opening minute of the second half and McKenna Burkhardt and Tess Muller added goals in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
 
Senior Sarah Bonthuis led Lehigh with four of its six second-half shots. Bonthuis and junior Abbie Brown were credited with Lehigh's two shots on goal.
 
Senior Maddie Kahn made seven saves in goal for the Mountain Hawks, while Molly Frey made a pair of saves for Temple.
 
The Mountain Hawks will head west next weekend for two games. Lehigh will play at Ball State Saturday at noon before visiting Ohio State on Sunday with game time also set for noon.
