Lehigh Baseball Brings In Incoming Class of 14 Ahead of 2023 Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Heading into his 28th season as head coach of the Lehigh baseball program, Sean Leary and Associate Head Coach AJ Miller have brought in one of their largest incoming class of first-years ahead of the 2023 campaign.
For the second consecutive recruiting class, this year's first-year class includes 13 newcomers along with one transfer as the Mountain Hawks look to once again contend for their third Patriot League title in program history.
"Coach Miller has done an outstanding job as our recruiting coordinator," Leary said. "This incoming class directly reflects his commitment to bringing the highest quality student-athletes into our program.
"I am confident this class will make an immediate impact while also laying the foundation for future success. Our expectations for all-around excellence are now the standards that our players welcome and aspire to exceed."
The 14 players represent three different states including Illinois, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
With 28 student-athletes returning to the fold from the 2022 iteration of the roster, the 14 newcomers bring the roster total to 42 names ahead of the new campaign. Of those 28 returners, five are fifth-years which include two-time reigning Patriot League Player of the Year Casey Rother and two-time All-Patriot League selections Joe Gorla and Luke Rettig.
David Andolina – RHP – Oak Park, Ill. – Oak Park River Forest
Andolina is the latest Illinois product to take his talents to Lehigh. He was named team captain and an All-Conference selection his senior season at Oak Park River Forest. In addition, Andolina was a Preseason Perfect Game All-Regional Honorable Mention. For his high school career, he pitched over 60 innings, striking out 85. During his senior season, Andolina registered a 2.30 ERA over 41 innings with 58 strikeouts. He graduated with a 4.4 weighted cumulative GPA, named Academic All-Conference for baseball twice. Andolina also played three years of varsity ice hockey, breaking the Oak Park River Forest single-season scoring record with 122 points in 51 games (81 goals and 41 assists) during his senior year.
Alex Bouchard – RHP – Chalfont, Pa. – Germantown Academy (Dickinson)
The Chalfont, Pa. native comes to Lehigh as a transfer following a season at Dickinson College. In high school, the Germantown Academy product was a three-year varsity letterman, starting all 23 games in the infield during the 2021 campaign, finishing in the top two in every offensive category. In his single season at Dickinson, Bouchard went 4-0 with a 3.42 ERA and a 10.65 K/9 in 10 relief appearances. In the classroom, he was a two-semester Dean's List honoree at Dickinson with a 3.96 GPA, finishing in the top six percent of his class.
Ryan Cochran – IF – Newtown Square, Pa. – Malvern Prep
Cochran heads to South Mountain following a stellar three-year varsity career at Malvern Prep. The Newtown Square native finished his high school tenure with a .305 career batting average and a tournament championship. He participated in the 2021 Carpenter Cup and in the classroom, Cochran was a two-time Inter-Academic League Champion.
Brandon Coughlin – RHP/OF – Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield
Coughlin hails from Greensburg, Pa. following a standout career at Hempfield. He earned a First Team All-Section nod in the WPIAL 6A following both the 2021 and 2022 seasons as an outfielder. He was also an All-Westmoreland County team honoree in both years. During his senior season, Coughlin batted .368 with an on-base percentage of above .500 and finished as the team's leader in home runs, RBIs and hits. He also played basketball and ran cross country in high school. In the classroom, Coughlin graduated with honors and was a member of both the National Honors Society and National Science Honor Society.
Trystan Crawford – IF/OF – Bloomsburg, Pa. – Central Columbia
Crawford wrapped up a tremendous high school career at Central Columbia, being named PHAC Conference Player of the Year in 2022 as well as being the Region MVP in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022. Crawford was a Perfect Game First Team All-American hitter in 2020. During his senior season, the Bloomsburg native hit .518 with seven home runs and a 1.658 OPS. In addition to baseball, Crawford played basketball and in the classroom, he was a member of the National Honor Society and the president of the Technology Student Association.
Ryan Davis – OF – Royersford, Pa. – Malvern Prep
Along with Lehigh teammate Ryan Cochran, Davis played an integral role in Malvern Prep's run to the Inter-Ac in both 2021 and 2022. In addition to baseball, Davis played football and was named a First Team All Inter-Ac selection, a First Team All-Mainline selection, First Team All-Area and won the Inter-Ac Championship in 2021. In the classroom, he earned First Honors three times and distinguished honors his sophomore season.
Jack Frankovic – UT/RHP – Little Silver, N.J. – Christian Brothers Academy
Frankovic enjoyed a successful spell at Christian Brothers Academy, in which he was a four-year starter and two-year varsity captain, holding a career batting average of .330. He was also a member of the varsity sailing team and surf team. In the classroom, Frankovic graduated with distinction and tallied over 500 hours of Christian service over four years helping the homeless, sick, disabled and less fortunate.
Anthony Gonzalez – RHP – Chatham, N.J. – Chatham
Gonzalez is one of three members of the Class of 2026 to spend his high school career at Chatham, following in the footsteps of alum Matt Stamford. He was an NJAC All-Star during his tenure. In the classroom, Gonzalez was a member of the honor roll.
Tommy Lamar – RHP – Chatham, N.J. – Chatham
Lamar is one of three members of the Class of 2026 from Chatham. He was a four-year varsity letter winner and during his senior season, recorded 60 strikeouts over 30 innings of work.
Cole Leaman – RHP – Sinking Spring, Pa. – Wilson
A local Berks County product from Sinking Spring, Leaman was a two-time All-County selection and finished his Wilson career with a 1.84 ERA, averaging two strikeouts an inning. In the classroom, Leaman finished his high school career with a 4.0 GPA and was Top 20 in his class. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
Ryan Mullock – RHP – Moorestown, N.J. – St. Joseph's Prep
Mullock dominated opposition at St. Joe's Prep in Philadelphia during his career, firing two no-hitters including one during his first-ever varsity start as a first-year. He is a two-time First Team All-Catholic selection and struck out 65 batters over 42 innings during his senior season, holding hitters to a .196 batting average against. Mullock also played basketball, where he was named Defensive Player of the Year, and soccer. In the classroom, he was a member of the National Honor Society and National Chinese Honor Society and graduated as an AP Scholar with distinction.
Shane O'Neill – RHP – Morristown, N.J. – Morristown
O'Neill leaves Morristown as a decorated alumni, finishing up a stellar career. He was a First Team All-Conference selection, a Northwest Jersey selection for the NJ Senior All Star Game and a two-time Northeast Region Perfect Game Preseason All-American Honorable Mention. O'Neill set Morristown's single-season strikeout record (101) during his senior campaign. In 2022, he recorded a 1.33 ERA with 101 strikeouts and only 10 walks over 63.1 innings. In the classroom, O'Neill was a member of the National Honor Society and a four-year member of the honor roll.
Dom Patrizi – IF – Marlton, N.J. – Cherokee
Patrizi brings a power bat to the infield at Lehigh following a strong high school career at Cherokee. The Marlton, N.J. native was named All-Conference during both his junior and senior seasons and won both a Sectional Championship and Olympic Conference Championship in 2022. During his final season, Patrizi drove in 20 runs, scoring 32 times with four home runs and 13 stolen bases. Per Prep Baseball Report (PBR), Patrizi is the 10th best shortstop in New Jersey and was ranked 32nd overall. He's a member of Perfect Game's Top 500 players and was a two-time Perfect Game Preseason All-American Mid Atlantic Region selection. In the classroom, Patrizi was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and earned the Super Chief Award.
Owen Walewander – C – Chatham, N.J. – Chatham
Adding to the Mountain Hawks' catcher depth, Walewander enjoyed success at Chatham, being a part of the battery that includes fellow Lehigh arms Anthony Gonzalez and Tommy Lamar. He was a First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Division pick during his senior season, named the team's Most Valuable Player. In 2022, Walewander hit .365 with three homers, six doubles and a triple. Also a member of the football team, he was a First Team All-County and First Team All-Conference selection, earning the team MVP award during his senior year. In the classroom, Walewander was named 2022 Morris County Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for Chatham and spent four years on the honor roll.
