Lehigh Finishes Bucknell Tune-Up With 16 PRs

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In their final regular season meet of the 2021-22 indoor season, the Mountain Hawks finished with 16 PRs on Friday at the Bucknell Tune-Up. The women's track and field team has shown much improvement throughout the indoor season as they prepare to head back to Bucknell next weekend for the Patriot League Championships.Â
"This meet is a great opportunity to see the facility we're competing on next week," said head coach Matt Utesch. "Every track is different so it's nice to get the kids out here to see it and get used to it. We had some great performances, a lot of PRs and wins. The team is moving in the right direction and is going into the Patriot League Championship ready and prepared."Â
On top of Lehigh's 16 PRs, the Mountain Hawks won six of the 17 events on Friday. Four of Lehigh's six first-place finishes were on the track side. Sophomore Christina Yakaboski started strong for the Mountain Hawks. Yakaboski finished first in the mile with a new PR of 5:03.12. First-year Savanah Beavers was close behind, finishing second with a time of 5:09.98. Junior Andrea Miller also grabbed a PR in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:16.41.Â
The Mountain Hawks continued to find success on the track with sophomore Claire Pedrick grabbing Lehigh's second first-place finish on Friday. Pedrick finished the 60m with a time of 7.88 and grabbed her first collegiate win. Sophomore Jordyn Hock finished in second in the 200m with a new PR of 26.00 as well.
In the 800m, first-year Lauryn Heskin continued to show improvement. Heskin finished first with a new PR of 2:19.29. Fellow first-years Amanda Mircovich and Riley Morrell found success in the 800m as well. Mircovich grabbed a second-place finish in the 800m (2:19.38) while Morrell finished with a new PR of 2:25.03.
On the distance side, Lehigh continued to put up impressive times. Sophomore Andrine Larsen grabbed her first collegiate win in the 3000m with a time of 10:31.20. Fellow sophomores Grace Kolbe and Abigail Tenreiro also found success in the 3000m. Kolbe finished second with a time of 11:01.83 while Tenreiro finished fourth with a time of 11:04.66.Â
The Mountain Hawks' sprints group continued to have success on the track. Senior Chae Kim finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.05. Junior Ashley Griesmeyer and first-year Chelsi Chevannes also finished the 60m hurdles with new PRs. Griesmeyer finished fifth with a time of 9.19 while Chevannes finished with a time of 9.78. Senior Carly Carpino tied her PR, finishing sixth with a time of 9.36.Â
On the field side, Lehigh won both the high jump and weight throw. Junior Calista Marzolina tied her PR in her first-place finish in the high jump (1.70m). Sophomore Kerry Perna grabbed a third place finish with a mark of 1.60m. First-years Chelsi Chevannes and Izabel Fronc had successful performances in the high jump at Bucknell. Chevannes earned a new PR and Fronc tied her PR while finishing in a three-way tie with senior Hannah Figueroa (1.50m).Â
Senior Teasha McKoy continued to build momentum going into the Patriot League Championships next weekend. McKoy finished first in the weight throw with a mark of 16.79m and third in the shot put with a mark of 13.10m. Senior Veronica Meyer (14.64m) finished third in the weight throw on Friday while sophomore Karina Roze earned a PR in the weight throw as well (14.44m).Â
In the jumps, first-years continued to finish with impressive marks. Keisha Modi finished third with a mark of 5.55m in the long jump and finished the triple jump with a new PR of 10.62. Lillian Mauger grabbed a new PR of 5.43m in her fourth-place finish in the long jump and Lauren Roy finished the triple jump with a new PR of 10.45m as well. Â
First-years Randi Conroy and Casey Talamini-Kelemen found success in the pole vault on Friday. Conroy finished third with a new PR of 3.50m while Talamini-Kelemen finished fourth with a mark of 3.35m.Â
"Everybody has worked hard enough to go [to the Patriot League Championships]," said Utesch. "Some people made a statement tonight on why they should be competing next weekend for us."Â
Lehigh will head back to Bucknell next Saturday for the two-day Patriot League Championship. Field events on Feb. 26 will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's weight throw and the men's pole vault. The first track event will begin at 1 p.m. with the men's 60m hurdles prelims.Â
