BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's lacrosse team has been recognized by the USILA for its academic success as graduate students Andrew Eichelberger and Conor Gaffney were named Scholar All-Americans while the Mountain Hawks received the USILA Academic Team Award.
Â
Eichelberger and Gaffney become the program's fourth and fifth Mountain Hawks named Scholar-All-Americans over the last two seasons (joining Erik DiGirolamo, Ryan Klose and Andrew Pettit in 2020) and 14th and 15th since 2010. A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Â
An Academic All-Patriot League honoree in 2021, Eichelberger posted a 3.9 cumulative grade point average as a graduate student in technical entrepreneurship. As an undergraduate, Eichelberger was named to the Dean's List (for a semester GPA over 3.6), named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award (for a semester GPA over 3.2). Meanwhile, Gaffney was a two-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and three-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League team. Gaffney recorded a 4.0 GPA in his graduate program, management science and engineering, this after ending his undergraduate career with a 3.95 as a double major in mechanical engineering and integrated business and engineering (finance). Gaffney is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American (being named to the second team in 2020 as one of just four Division I men's lacrosse student-athletes recognized as Academic All-Americans).
Â
The USILA Academic Team Award is a new award given to teams finishing the school year with a GPA over 3.0. The Mountain Hawks posted a 3.63 grade point average in the fall and 3.35 GPA in the spring.
