Leggett Named a Senior CLASS Award First Team All-American

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's lacrosse senior Teddy Leggett was recognized as a Senior CLASS Award first team All-American late last week. The recognition means he finished in the top five of the Senior CLASS Award voting amongst the 10 finalists. Georgetown's Jake Carraway was named the winner while Charlie Bertrand (Virginia), Chris Gray (North Carolina) and Ryan Smith (Robert Morris) joined Leggett on the first team.

Leggett became Lehigh's fourth finalist in program history, with all four being named to the first team. The others were Jonathan Stumpf (2011), Ty Souders (2014) and Craig Chick (2019).

No finalists were named in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the Mountain Hawks have featured a finalist in each of the last two seasons. The only other program who can say that is Virginia.

Lehigh has a strong tradition of Senior CLASS Award honorees. In 2021, Leggett and Conor Gaffney were the only two candidates from the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks have had at least one candidate in eight of the last nine years (with 11 honorees in that time). Lehigh is also the only men's lacrosse program in the country with multiple honorees in three straight seasons.

Gaffney and Andrew Pettit were both named candidates last season (Gaffney was eligible again in 2021 since he returned for a fifth year after the pandemic cut short the 2020 season). The year prior, Pettit and Craig Chick were both candidates (then when Pettit came back to Lehigh for a fifth year due to his season-ending injury in 2019, he was eligible to be nominated for the honor again).

To be eligible for the Senior CLASS Award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

On the field, Leggett was named All-Patriot League for a third time in 2021, finishing the season with a team-high 15 caused turnovers along with 43 groundballs (good for second on the Mountain Hawks). Leggett was a key part of Lehigh's faceoff game, which was No. 1 nationally as Mike Sisselberger broke the NCAA Division I record for faceoff percentage (79.5). Leggett owns 209 career groundballs, good for sixth in program history.
