Papov Earns Spot on Academic All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A key member of Lehigh women's rowing's Varsity Eight, junior Bella Papov was recognized on Tuesday as a member of the 11-member Academic All-Patriot League team. Papov owns an impressive 3.70 cumulative GPA as a biochemistry major while on the water, she helped the Varsity Eight post its best-ever finish at the Patriot League Championship.

In the classroom, Papov has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every season and to the Dean's List on multiple occasions (for a semester GPA over 3.6). She posted a perfect 4.0 semester GPA last spring and garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award for a semester GPA over 3.2.

Papov was in the bow seat in the Varsity Eight at the Patriot League Championship (she was also in the three seat earlier in the spring). The V8 finished fourth at Patriots, Lehigh's best finish since the league's expansion beyond five teams. The only other time the Mountain Hawks' V8 finished fourth was when there were only five teams in the league. Lehigh was less than three seconds behind third place. The Mountain Hawks were closer to first place (less than 12 seconds) than fourth place (just under 28 seconds). Lehigh's Varsity Eight was named Patriot League Boat of the Week twice in 2021 – the first two-time winner in program history. The first award came after Lehigh's victory over Loyola in a dual in which the Mountain Hawks never trailed and beat the Greyhounds by nearly a minute. The second award came after beating Colgate in a morning heat by 25 seconds, then Marist in the afternoon grand final by more than 16 seconds.
