BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Earlier this week, Lehigh men's lacrosse junior faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger was named to the USILA Team of the Week for the third time this season (and the Mountain Hawks' fifth honor as a team). The recognition came following another strong performance in the Patriot League Semifinal victory against Colgate.
Â
The 2021 Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Year, and nation's leader in faceoff percentage (79.5) and groundballs per game (13.55) finished Friday's semifinal 18-of-25 with 14 groundballs. It actually tied a season-high for Sisselberger's most faceoffs lost in a game this season, which shows the consistent excellence in which he's performed all season.
Â
Sisselberger enters Saturday's NCAA Tournament vs. Rutgers with 210 faceoff wins this season – needing just five more to move into second place in program history for career faceoff victories. He's also up to 149 groundballs in 2021, needing just four to break teammate Conor Gaffney's program and Patriot League record.
Â
Seeded and ranked eighth, the Mountain Hawks will face unseeded and ninth-ranked Rutgers on Saturday in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Opening faceoff is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
