Swimming and Diving concludes April Pools Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Competing in an Open Invitational called the April Pools Invitational, the Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving team competed the last two days virtually against American, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette and Loyola (Md.). Throughout the two days and 40 events, the men's team finished second with a score of 494 points, while the women's team totaled 467.5 points which was good enough for fourth.  
"I was glad to see our depth kept us in the hunt over the last two days," said head coach Rob Herb. "This was our last meet until Lehigh-Lafayette. We trained through this one but will be ready for some fast times in two weeks."
 
Starting with the women, Anna Francisco and Megan Fennell picked up the lone wins for the Mountain Hawks. Fennell won the 1-meter dive with a score of 213.70, while Francisco picked up the win in the 100 back with a time of 58.58. In the same event, Hallie Wilson finished sixth at 59.18.
 
In the 3-meter dive, first-year diver Emma Camp registered a second-place score of 208.50. The 200 free relay group of Ann Foley, Olivia Giampietro, Noel Fresa and Francisco finished third with a time of 1:38.47. The senior Foley would then go ahead and finish fifth In the 200 free (1:55.99) and eighth in the 50 free at 24.65. The 200 medley relay group of Samantha Gallego, Malia Wolf, Francisco and Fresa finished fifth at 1:51.10. Fresa then followed that with a sixth-place finish in the 200 free at 1:56.86 and the 50 free at 24.63.
 
The senior Wolf also tallied a sixth-place finish in the 200 fly at 2:07.87, while Sarah Hardy finished right behind her in seventh at 2:10.60. Hallie Wilson (2:08.54), Sophia Poeta (2:08.85) and Francsico (2:08.97) recorded sixth, seventh and eighth spots in the 200 back. The 800 free relay team to Jordan MacDonald, Hannah Lord, Sarah Manthorp and Anna Thomas finished seventh with a time of 8:21.17.
 
The senior Thomas also registered a seventh-place finish in the 200 breast (2:29.76), while first-year swimmer Kelsey Thompson finished ninth with a time of 2:31.50. Samantha Gallego finished eighth in the 100 breast at 1:09.54 and ninth in the 200 IM at 2:11.68. Sarah Horne (4:45.48) finished ninth in the 400 IM.
   
Throwing it over to the men's side, first-year swimmer Keagan Casey and junior diver Addison Cochran picked up wins for the Mountain Hawks. Cochran took first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 232.20, while finishing second in the 1-meter dive at 198.55. The first-year swimmer Casey won the 1650 free with a time of 16:27.61. The freshman also tallied a fifth-place finish in the 500 free (4:44.02) and a sixth-place finish in the 200 free (1:45.31). In the same event, Matt Feryo took seventh at 1:46.33.
 
A big strength throughout the two days for Lehigh was the relay groups. The 400 medley relay team of Max Goldenberg, Connor Sept, Janik Wing and Alex Patti took fourth with a group time of 3:32.58. The 200 medley relay team of Glenn Lasco, Goldenberg, Sept and Wing took fifth at 1:37.10. The Mountain Hawks then recorded back-to-back sixth-place finishes in the 200 (1:27.68) and 800 free relay (7:12.95). The 200 free relay team consisted of Aiden McCurley, Nicholas Gewartowski, Lasco and Patti, while the 800 free relay team was connor Drucis, Collin Hanlon, Feryo and Casey.
 
In the 100 fly, the senior Goldenberg registered a fourth-place finish with a time of 50,04, while then finishing sixth in the 100 back with a time of 53.11. In that same 100 back event, the senior captain Feryo took seventh at 53.60 and then fourth in the 200 back at 1:53.56.
 
The junior standout Lasco also finished fifth in the 100 free with a time of 46.63 and then eighth in the 50 free at 21.48. Connor Drucis finished sicth in the 200 fly (1:57.24) and seventh in the 400 IM (4:18.92).
 
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will take on their rival in Lafayette in two weeks.
