BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of Lehigh men's lacrosse student-athletes garnered Patriot League weekly awards on Monday as sophomore Christian Mule' was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week while junior Mike Sisselberger earned Faceoff Specialist of the Week. The award is the first of Mule's career while it's Sisselberger's fourth straight and fifth this season.
Mule' finished Saturday's 18-12 win over Bucknell with career highs in goals (7) and points (10). Entering the weekend, only 10 players in the nation had reached double-figure points in a game this season. Mule' was just one goal and two points from tying program records. His 10 points were the most by a Lehigh player since Dan Taylor had 10 on Feb. 14, 2015 at Furman. Mule' had seven first-half points (four goals, three assists), having a hand in 70 percent of the Mountain Hawks' first-half tallies. Included was a highlight-reel backhand shovel goal that went viral on the national lacrosse media outlets. Mule' also scored a big goal with 1.6 seconds left in the first half to put the Mountain Hawks ahead 10-7 at the half. For the season, Mule' owns 27 goals and 13 assists. He's had at least four points in each of his last five games.
The nation's leader in faceoff percentage and groundballs entering the weekend continued his strong play Saturday. After winning six of his first 11 faceoffs, he won 15 of his last 16 to finish the day 21-of-27 with 15 groundballs. Sisselberger also recorded his first-career assist with 4:55 left in the fourth quarter. For the season, he's won 79.3 percent of his faceoffs (172-of-217) with 127 groundballs. Through nine games, his GB total is already second in program history for a season.
Standing 9-0 on the season and 8-0 in Patriot League play, the Mountain Hawks are up to No. 5 in Monday's Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse Magazine national polls (and No. 6 in the USILA Coaches Poll). Lehigh wraps up the regular season on Saturday with a nonleague showdown at No. 16 Villanova. Gametime is set for 12 p.m.
