
Gaffney Becomes Lehigh’s First-Ever Premier Lacrosse League Collegiate Draft Pick

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's lacrosse's all-time career leader for faceoff wins and groundballs, graduate student Conor Gaffney became the program's first-ever PLL Collegiate Draft selection on Monday night, as he went 21st overall to the Archers. Gaffney has enjoyed a decorated collegiate career as a two-time first team All-Patriot League honoree, a 2019 All-American and Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Year.
Gaffney has won 684-of-1074 faceoffs with 399 groundballs in his career. The groundball total is most in Patriot League history while he's 25 faceoff wins from tying the all-time career record held by Loyola's Bailey Savio. Gaffney already owns the league's record for faceoff wins (249) and groundballs (152) in a season, both set in 2019.
This season, Gaffney has won 15-of-27 faceoffs, backing up junior Mike Sisselberger, who is the nation's leader in faceoff percentage and groundballs. Gaffney has won 11-of-17 draws over hist last three games. The Mount Laurel, N.J. native was named a preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse and was named an honorable mention postseason All-American following the 2019 campaign.
Also strong in the classroom with a GPA approaching 4.0, Gaffney is a two-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and two-time Senior CLASS Award candidate. He's a three-time Academic All-American, being named to the second team in 2020. Gaffney's undergraduate degree was in Mechanical Engineering and Finance while he's currently working towards his master's degree in Management Science and Engineering.
Gaffney will join the Premier Lacrosse League, which has featured Lehigh alumni and connections. Most recently, last summer, Craig Chick '19 impressed in his rookie season in the PLL after being selected in the 2020 Entry Draft (following a season in Major League Lacrosse). Current Mountain Hawks' assistant coach John Crawley is also a veteran in the league.
Gaffney and the Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to No. 16 Villanova to face the Wildcats at 12 p.m.
