Men's Tennis drops heartbreaking match to Army in Patriot League Semifinals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team gave it they had on Saturday afternoon but the Army West Point Black Knights proved to be too much in the end, winning by a score of 4-2 in the Patriot League Semifinals. The No. 3 seed Mountain Hawks went toe-to-toe with the No. 2 seed Army but in the end it wasn't enough.

The Black Knights started with the lead by winning the doubles point against the Mountain Hawks. Army's top team of Woodman and Lake bested Lehigh's Zack Elliott and Steven Nazaroff, 6-3. Then at the at No. 2 spot, Harry Wang and Jacob Edelchik fell to Army's Huttepain and Eden by a score of 6-4.

Moving onto singles, the junior Elliott suffered a loss in straight sets at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-4, and then the senior Edelchik dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match at the No. 5 spot. Despite trailing 3-0, the Brown and White stormed back and made things interesting after Gary Fishkin picked up a decisive win in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (5), while Harry Wang took home a victory in a three-setter, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

With the score at 3-2, the match came down to Jordan Paul and Matt Kleiman at the No. 3 and 5 spot. After dropping the first set by a 6-2 score, the freshman Paul stormed back and won the second set by the same score. The freshman's late attempt at sneaking out a win was unsuccessful, Army's David Gorshein took the third set by a score of 6-3 to clinch the victory for the Black Knights. The sophomore Kleiman and his opponent were even at five in their third set when the match was stopoped.

Army West Point will now move onto the finals and take on the Navy Midshipmen at noon tomorrow.
