Junior Jaelynn Chesson went 3-for-4 with five RBIs in game one, including the game-tying RBI single in the seventh inning of game one. A double by freshman Brooke Cannon brought home the go-ahead run, while senior Payton Alsobrooks provided some cushion with a three-run home run in the nine-run outburst. Junior Melissa Fedorka drove in both runs in game two and added an RBI in game one.
Sunday's split leaves Lehigh at 7-13 overall and 5-7 in the Patriot League with two more weekends of league play remaining for the Mountain Hawks.
Colgate (9-11, 7-7 PL) jumped out to 4-0 leads in both ends of Sunday's doubleheader. In game one, the Raiders scored four in the bottom of the third to go in front.
Fedorka singled home junior Karsen O'Rourke in the top of the fourth but Colgate added an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to re-establish a four run lead.
Lehigh pulled back within 5-4 in the fifth as Chesson doubled home two runs and then scored on a sacrifice fly by O'Rourke.
Sophomores Josie Charles and Emily Cimino opened the seventh with a bunt single and a walk, respectively. Chesson then singled to left, scoring Charles with the tying run. Cannon then doubled off the glove of Raider third baseman Morgan Farrah, scoring Cimino with the go-ahead run.
O'Rourke and freshman Amanda Greaney added RBIs to extend Lehigh's lead to 8-5 before Alsobrooks drilled a three-run home run to left, her first of the season, to extend the lead to 11-5. Chesson capped the scoring with a two-run double.
Freshman Katelyn Young earned the victory in the circle. She threw five innings of relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Lehigh finished with 16 hits in the opener, with junior Carley Barjaktarovich joining Chesson with three hits in the game.
Colgate plated four in the first inning of game two, behind a Taylor Ludwick two-run double and RBI hits by Kara Fusco and Mia Guevarra.
The Mountain Hawks answered back with two runs in the second on a two-run Fedorka single. Lehigh put the first two batters on in the fourth but was unable to cut into the deficit.
Colgate put the game away with six runs in the home fourth on RBI doubles by Virginia Irby and Farrah, a sacrifice fly Ludwick and a three-run home run by Fusco, who finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
Young was charged with eight runs (five earned) on seven hits in 1.1 innings, while freshman Ansley Dambach allowed two runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.
The Mountain Hawks will take on Bucknell next weekend in a four-game home-and-home series. Lehigh will host Bucknell Saturday at Leadership Park and then will travel to Lewisburg for a Sunday doubleheader.
