Lehigh's first back-to-back Player of the Week winner since 2007
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second consecutive week, Lehigh baseball senior outfielder Eric Cichocki has been named Patriot League Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league office. The honor is Cichocki's second of his career and becomes the first Mountain Hawk to be named Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks since Liam O'Connor in 2007.
Cichocki was excellent in Lehigh's four-game series against George Washington over the weekend, playing two games in Washington, D.C. on Saturday and two on Sunday at Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J.
He got the weekend off on a high note by going 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in the first game of the series. On Sunday in Game 1, Cichocki went 2-for-3 with two doubles and 3-for-5 in Game 2 with a double, a sacrifice and a run scored.
Cichocki batted .500 (7-for-14) combined between all four contests with three doubles and three runs scored. He slugged .714 and reached base at a .563 clip.
Through six games for the senior, he is batting .522 (12-for-23) with four doubles, nine runs scored and five stolen bases, walking four times as well. Cichocki is among Patriot League and NCAA leaders in a multitude of categories including batting average (first in PL, 15th in NCAA), doubles per game (0.67, second, 16th), hits per game (2.00, second, 11th) and stolen bases per game (0.83, second, 17th).
In addition to Cichocki's award, freshman right-hander Lucas Rich was named an honorable mention by the league for his relief performance against the Colonials on Sunday. He tossed four innings, allowing two runs, none earned with five strikeouts, not figuring into the decision.
As of now, the Mountain Hawks' next scheduled games are for March 20 and 21st against Navy, with the true home opening doubleheader at J. David Walker Field set on the 20th at noon. Those games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
