Sisselberger, Spence Earn Patriot League Weekly Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following the program's first-ever win over Loyola, a pair of Lehigh men's lacrosse student-athletes received Patriot League weekly awards, as announced on Monday. Junior Mike Sisselberger was named the league's Faceoff Specialist of the Week honors while senior James Spence garnered Goalie of the Week recognition, helping the Mountain Hawks defeat the Greyhounds, 10-6.

Sisselberger's effort was truly dominant, winning 16-of-19 faceoffs with 10 groundballs, most faceoffs coming against 2020 third team All-American Baily Savio (Savio was just 1-of-12 against Sisselberger on the afternoon). Sisselberger was 4-of-4 in the first quarter and 9-of-10 in the first half, helping the Mountain Hawks control possession. He also scored a key third-quarter goal to put the Mountain Hawks ahead 8-3, rounding out Lehigh's 6-1 run which was the difference in the game. For the season, Sisselberger has won 78.0 percent of his faceoffs (32-of-41) with 20 groundballs.
Spence was equally impressive, tying a career-high 17 saves, with 16 of those stops coming over the final three quarters. Included were some timely saves when the Greyhounds were trying to get back in the game. After Loyola pulled within 9-6 with 9:16 remaining, Spence stopped the final four shots sent his way. As a unit, Spence and the Mountain Hawks' defense held Loyola to its fewest goals in any regular season game since Mar. 12, 2016 against Duke. For the season, Spence owns a 6.11 goals against average and 68.8 save percentage. Monday's award marked Spence's seventh-career Patriot League weekly award (sixth Goalie of the Week honor).
Standing 2-0 on the season, Lehigh will return to action when it travels to Bucknell on Sunday to face the Bison. Gametime is set for 12 p.m.
