Mountain Hawks Wrap Up Competitive Day vs. Drexel

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh rowing team put forth a strong effort against Drexel Saturday on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, highlighted by the Women's Varsity Four leading wire-to-wire in an impressive victory.

"It was a great day of racing," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "I'm really excited about the effort our team put forth today, building off last week against Saint Joseph's. The Women's Varsity Four was the standout crew of the day. They looked really sharp from start to finish. They took what we told them to focus in on and really executed it and I think their ability to focus and put things together on race day was why they came out on top."

The Women's Varsity Four posted a time of 7:22.6, ahead of Drexel B in second (7:25.59) and Drexel A in third (7:34.19).

Meanwhile, the Women's Varsity Eight finished in 6:50.84, behind a pair of Drexel boats and ahead of one as well. The Men's Varsity Eight had a time of 5:56.73, behind Drexel A (5:53.6) and ahead of two other Drexel boats that finished in 6:10.27 and 6:13.39, respectively.

"The Men's Varsity had a great race," said Conley. "For a lot of them, it was their first collegiate race ever, so it was great to see them get out onto the water and have a great effort in racing against a strong Drexel team. They led for about 1,700 meters, which against Drexel is a great thing to do, but we just need to finish out the race when we do it."

The women's squad will return to action next Saturday when it takes on Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. The men and women will both be in action on Sunday, Apr. 18 against Manhattan in Leonia, N.J.
