BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On the heels of another memorable season, the Lehigh baseball team has unveiled its 2022 schedule, announced by 2021 Patriot League Coach of the Year Sean Leary on Thursday afternoon.
Â
A full campaign planned for the first time since the 2018 season, the upcoming slate of games features 21 regular season games at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park and 24 non-league games starting with a three-game series on the road in North Carolina.
Â
Lehigh kicks off the 2022 season at Davidson Feb. 18-20 before traveling to Richmond, Va. on Feb. 26-27 against Mount St. Mary's for two pairs of doubleheaders. The Mountain Hawks then head to Delaware State for three games Mar. 4 and 5.
Â
Spring Break begins on Mar. 11 as Lehigh travels back to VMI for three games Mar. 11-13.
Â
Lehigh's home opener at J. David Walker Field is set for Mar. 15 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson at 3 p.m. It also hosts Saint Peter's on Mar. 16 as well as St. Bonaventure for four games Mar. 17 through 19.
Â
The Mountain Hawks visit Philadelphia to take on Penn on Mar. 23 at 3 p.m.
Â
Patriot League play begins on Mar. 26 as Lehigh heads to nearby Easton to take on rival Lafayette for two doubleheaders Mar. 26 and 27.
Â
Liberty Bell Classic action returns on Mar. 30 vs. Rider with a second-round matchup set for Apr. 6 against a team to be determined.
Â
A 10-game homestand continues on Apr. 2 vs. Navy for two games, also hosting Bucknell on Apr. 3 for a pair. Defending Patriot League Champion Army West Point comes to town Apr. 9-10 in a rematch of the Championship Series for two games on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
Â
The Mountain Hawks close out the homestand with a mid-week tilt vs. Ursinus on Apr. 13.
Â
Lehigh takes on Navy in Annapolis the weekend of Apr. 16 for three games, before closing the regular season series vs. Lafayette at home on Apr. 20 at 3 p.m. for The Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network and Coordinated Health.
Â
A trip to Lewisburg against Bucknell for three games Apr. 23-24 is next on the docket for the Mountain Hawks, who will then host Cairn Apr. 28 at 3 p.m. for the final non-league home game of the season.
Â
Lehigh's final regular season home games of the year take place Apr. 30 and May 1, as the Mountain Hawks host Holy Cross.
Â
The Mountain Hawks finish the season with five games – one at Saint Peter's on May 4, two at Army West Point May 7 and a couple at Holy Cross on May 8.
Â
The Patriot League Baseball Championships kick off May 14 and 15 with the semifinal round before the Championship Series is schedule to take place May 20-22 with three consecutive games.
Â
Lehigh earned its first Patriot League regular season title since 2006 after an outstanding 2021 season in which the program earned three major awards – Pitcher of the Year Mason Black, Player of the Year Casey Rother and Sean Leary as Coach of the Year – as well as a program-record eight All-Patriot League selections. Of those eight, four – Rother, Luke Rettig, Adam Retzbach and Joe Gorla – are back in the fold for the 2022 season. The Mountain Hawks took Army West Point to the brink, but fell in the deciding game of the Patriot League Championship Series, falling just short of the program's third Patriot League title and first since 2015.
