BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four members of the Lehigh football team have been selected to All-Patriot League teams, as the league announced its football all-league teams and major awards on Tuesday.
Junior safety TyGee Leach garnered first team honors for the second consecutive year, while fifth-year linebacker Pete Haffner, junior defensive lineman Mikhari Sibblis and sophomore cornerback LaTreil Wimberly all made the second team. This is the third consecutive second-team honor for Haffner. Wimberly made the second team for the second straight year.
The All-Patriot League teams and major award winners are voted on by the league's head football coaches.
Leach started all 11 games for the Mountain Hawks in 2021 and tied for the team lead with 69 tackles. He added 4.5 tackles for loss, half a sack and a team-leading eight pass breakups. Leach's best performance was a nine-tackle, 1.5 tackle-for-loss, 0.5 sack effort against Holy Cross on Oct. 30. He had two tackles for loss, two quarterback pressures and two pass breakups a week later at Bucknell.
Haffner captured the final two Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week awards this season and finished 44 tackles, despite being limited to six games due to injury. He ranked second on the team with 6.5 tackles for loss and added three sacks. Haffner had 12 tackles and a sack against Lafayette, one week after a 10-tackle, 2.5-TFL, one sack performance against Georgetown.
Sibblis led the Mountain Hawks with 4.5 sacks this season to go along with 47 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss. He also had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. Sibblis had a trio of six tackle games this past season and had four games with a full sack. He had six tackles in Saturday's rivalry win and shared a sack with freshman Xavier Stephens on the final play of the game.
The only freshman to earn all-league honors following the spring season, Wimberly delivered a strong sophomore campaign with 44 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, half a sack and an interception. Wimberly's first career interception came against Holy Cross, where he also had his 1.5 tackles for loss and shared a sack. He had a season-high eight tackles on Sept. 11 at Richmond.
Lehigh finished third in the Patriot League in both scoring defense and total defense, but made improvements throughout the season. The Mountain Hawks allowed just 18.5 points per game and 301.7 yards per game over their final six games after allowing nearly 35 points and 450 yards per game over their first five.
The Mountain Hawks finished the 2021 season with three consecutive wins, including Saturday's 17-10 triumph over Lafayette in Rivalry 157.
