Fall Slate Comes to a Finish as Lehigh Competes in NYRA Invitational Saturday
11/14/2021 8:33:00 PM | Men's Rowing, Women's Rowing
RIDGEFIELD, N.J. – After the Frostbite Regatta was cancelled on Saturday due to inclement weather, the Lehigh rowing team was able to hit the water on Sunday at the NYRA Invitational on Overpeck Lake in Ridgefield, N.J.
Â
"We learned a lot," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "I think we're disappointed in terms of how we performed and the results overall. It's unfortunate, that it's how we ended our fall, but I think it will give us a lot of fuel in winter training to come out in the spring ready to perform."
Â
The women's races featured heats in the morning, while the men's started directly in finals. On the men's side, Lehigh's Second Varsity Eight finished second (6:48.418) while the Varsity Eight placed third (6:17.049). For the women, the Varsity Eight came in fourth (7:00.255) while the Second Varsity Eight finished third (7:21.645).
Â
"I think the Women's 2V had the best performance of the day," said Conley. "They learned that we need to get stronger and fitter, and that's the only thing that held us up in that race. If we can do that over the winter, we'll be in a really good place in the spring in all our boats."
Â
Overall, Conley is happy with the progress and success this fall, which was highlighted by three medals, including two golds, at the Head of the Schuylkill.
Â
"I think this was one of our best falls I've seen while at Lehigh," said Conley. "The team came back from the summer ready to compete, which was great and the group that we have is doing a great job in terms of being focused in at practices and putting in the work. Now, doing it over time is the important thing and our focus."
