BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After scoring the insurance goal in Lehigh men's soccer's 2-0 victory over Lafayette on Saturday night, freshman Yoni Aidlberg was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the first time in his young career, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The award comes the day before the Mountain Hawks play their final non-league contest of the 2021 season, taking on Princeton Tuesday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m.
Aidlberg recorded his first career points with an 87th minute strike to put the game on ice as Lehigh took down the Leopards in the rain.
He's the team's first Rookie of the Week award winner since current senior Josh Luchini won it twice during the 2018 season.
In addition to Aidlberg's honor, three Mountain Hawks – sophomore goalkeeper Blake Koski, fifth year midfielder Trevor Koski and junior forward Jack Sarkos – earned honorable mentions from the league for their performances.
The Mountain Hawks close the non-league slate with a matchup against Ivy League foe Princeton on Tuesday night, coming off a gigantic 2-0 win over Lafayette to stay alive in the hunt for a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. Following Tuesday night's fixture, Lehigh will take its six points into another crucial league contest on Saturday, taking on Navy on the road in Annapolis.
Jack Sarkos and Aidlberg both got on the scoresheet in Lehigh's Rivalry victory, while Trevor Koski tallied two assists and Blake Koski made six saves to record his first career shutout.
With two goals on Saturday, the Mountain Hawks increase their total to 10 on the season, averaging 0.77 goals per contest in 13 games. The defense has allowed goals at a 1.62 rate per contest, but have allowed just three over their last four games, going 2-1-1 during that stretch.
Princeton enters Tuesday on a two-game win streak, as the Tigers (6-5-0, 3-0 Ivy) picked up back-to-back wins over Columbia (3-0) on Saturday and Brown (3-1) the previous week. Princeton has out-scored Ivy League opponents a combined 9-3 in three league games.
Five players have scored 11 of the team's 17 goals on the year with Kevin O'Toole leading the way with three, also adding five assists. Daniel Diaz Bonilla, Francis Akomeah-Sirleaf, Walker Gillespie and Malik Pinto each have two goals to their credit.
Jack Roberts has made 10 starts in net for the Tigers, making a total of 21 saves with a 0.94 goals allowed average.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Lehigh, 8-32-1 dating back to 1922. The Tigers won the last meeting, 3-0 back in 2019 and have won two straight dating back to 2011.
Tuesday's matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required) with kick-off set from Ulrich at 7:30 p.m.
