BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the start of practice and the 2021 season quickly approaching, a trio of Lehigh men's lacrosse student-athletes were named honorable mention preseason All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association on Wednesday. Graduate student Conor Gaffney, senior Teddy Leggett and junior Anthony Tangredi were all recognized.

Lehigh's three honorees are tied with Army West Point and Loyola for the most in the Patriot League.

Already the most accomplished faceoff specialist in program history and one of the nation's top players at his position, Gaffney returns for a fifth year in 2021. Most recently, in the shortened 2020 season, Gaffney finished ninth nationally in faceoff percentage (65.7) to up his career winning percentage to 63.9 (669-of-1047). As a junior in 2019, Gaffney was fourth in the nation in faceoff percentage (69.7), a year that saw him break Patriot League and program records for faceoff wins (242) and groundballs (152). That year, he was named an honorable mention postseason All-American by the USILA and Inside Lacrosse. In the classroom, Gaffney is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, being named to the second team last season. He is also a former Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Year and two-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Recently named a second-year captain, Leggett has enjoyed an impressive career to date at both long-stick midfield and close defense. He was named second team All-Patriot League following his freshman and sophomore seasons (no All-League honors were awarded last year). Leggett finished 2020 with 26 groundballs and five caused turnovers, good for second and third on the Mountain Hawks, respectively. Leggett was a preseason All-League honoree last year and enters 2021 with 166 career groundballs (already seventh in program history) and 48 caused turnovers. His 79 groundballs in 2019 were tied for sixth in program history for a season.

Tangredi emerged at close defense in 2020, finishing the shortened season second nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.67) with 16 in six contests. Tangredi added 14 groundballs while also posting a goal and assist. He had at least one caused turnover in all six games, including nine through a pair of Patriot League contests. Tangredi had four caused turnovers vs. Navy then five (along with three groundballs) against Holy Cross to earn Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors. He opened the season with a seven-groundball, three-caused turnover effort vs. Utah. Tangredi and the Mountain Hawks' defense finished 14th nationally in allowing just 9.67 goals per contest.

Hopes are high for Lehigh entering the 2021 season. The Mountain Hawks stand No. 16 in a pair of recently-released preseason polls – Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse.
