RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lehigh softball team picked up two more victories on day two of the NC State Invitational Saturday at Dail Stadium. The Mountain Hawks began the day by scoring 17 runs on 13 hits in a 17-2 five-inning victory over North Carolina A&T; then used the long ball to pick up their first win over a ranked opponent in 14 years as Lehigh hit four home runs in a 6-2 triumph over No. 24/25 James Madison.

Freshman Emily Cimino went 5-for-8 on the day, driving in three runs in each game, and clubbing two home runs against the Dukes. Senior Parker Boyd was impressive in 10 innings of work across the two games as she picked up both victories in the circle.

Prior to Saturday, Lehigh had not beaten a top 25 team since 2006 when the Mountain Hawks defeated Texas A&M twice in the NCAA Amherst Regional.

Against James Madison, Boyd allowed just two runs on six hits in a complete-game effort, striking out six with no walks. She held reigning NFCA National Player of the Week Kate Gordon to an 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

The Mountain Hawks and Dukes were scoreless through four innings with JMU holding a slight 4-3 edge in hits. Lehigh went ahead in the fifth as sophomore Carley Barjaktarovich was hit by a pitch with one out. Two batters later, Cimino drilled a two-run home run to center field, her third homer of the season to break the scoreless deadlock. Sophomore Jaelynn Chesson followed with a single and moved to second on a walk before scoring a on an Addie Kittel two-out single to right field.

James Madison (6-4) cut its deficit to one after six as Sara Jubas led off the frame with a single and Logan Newton followed with a home run to right to make the score 3-2 Lehigh. Hannah File reached on a two-base error to put the tying run in scoring position but Boyd settled in, retiring the next three Dukes in order and pitching a 1-2-3 seventh to close out the game.

Lehigh provided insurance for Boyd in the seventh, when Cimino led off with her second home run of the game, out to center field, and Chesson followed with her first, out to left field. Three batters later, junior Payton Alsobrooks connected for her first home run of the season, putting Lehigh up 6-2.

The Mountain Hawks finished with 10 hits against the JMU tandem of Kayla Boseman and Isabel Kelly. Cimino and Chesson were both 3-for-4, while Barjaktarovich also recorded two hits.

In its first game of the day against North Carolina A&T, Lehigh scored four or more runs in three of its four times at bat to run-rule the Aggies for the second straight day. Five different Mountain Hawks recorded two hits: Barjaktarovich, Cimino, Chesson, Alsobrooks and senior Mary-Hannah Smith.

Lehigh scored five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first, with Kittel singling home two runs and Alsobrooks delivering an RBI triple.

In the third, Smith cleared the bases with a three-run double and then scored on a Cimino ground out to put Lehigh up 9-0. Lehigh put the game out of reach with eight runs in the fourth. Smith and Cimino each delivered two-RBI doubles and the Mountain Hawks added four more runs on three bases loaded walks and a bases loaded hit batter.

North Carolina A&T (2-13) pitchers issues eight walks and hit five batters in the contest.

Boyd threw three hitless innings with four strikeouts and a walk before giving way to Kittel, who made her first career appearance in the circle. Kittel threw a 1-2-3 fourth inning and then closed out the game in the fifth, allowing two hits, including a Maddie Trotter two-run home run, with two walks and a strikeout.

Saturday's two victories move the Mountain Hawks to 6-3 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks will close out the NC State Invitational on Sunday with a rematch versus James Madison, with game time slated for 10 a.m.
