BETHLEHEM, Pa. — It has been an offense-centric last couple of games for the Lehigh women's basketball team, as the Mountain Hawks take a two-game win streak into Worcester, Mass. to take on Holy Cross Wednesday evening.
Lehigh is coming off a dominant 73-66 victory over archrival Lafayette Saturday night at Stabler Arena, in which sophomore guard Megan Walker scored a career-high 23 points on a career-best seven 3-pointers, while junior guard Mary Clougherty poured in 19 on three 3-pointers.
The win comes on the heels of a 94-65 win at Army West Point last week where Clougherty scored a career-high 24 points on six 3-pointers.
Against the Leopards, while both Walker and Clougherty paced the Lehigh offense, guard Camryn Buhr continued her all-around success with 10 points and 10 rebounds, adding eight assists, finishing just two shy of recording the first triple-double in program history.
For their performances, both Clougherty and Walker were named Patriot League Honorable Mentions in back-to-back weeks.
The Mountain Hawks are shooting the lights out from beyond-the-arc in their last two games, shooting 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from long range and 46.8 percent (65-for-139) from the field.
Lehigh is in a good position to keep in line with the top four seeds for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, a game up on Holy Cross and a game behind Colgate for second, still needing to play the Raiders twice in the final six games of the regular season slate.
It's safe to say that the past five games have been a little bit of a struggle for Holy Cross, falling in three of its last five matchups including two straight.
The Crusaders are coming off tough losses to Boston University (62-51) at home and Colgate (71-60), as well as Boston University the first time on Jan. 25, 76-70 in overtime.
Holy Cross has just one win under its belt, a 57-43 victory over Navy, since taking down the Mountain Hawks at Stabler on Jan. 22.
The result of that has the Crusaders sitting in fifth place in the Patriot League with a league record of 6-5.
For one, Preseason Player of the Year Lauren Manis has struggled mightily against competition in her last two outings, managing just 12 points and seven boards in a loss against the Terriers and two points against Colgate, going 1-for-10 from the field, ultimately fouling out of the game after getting into foul trouble. In that period of time, she has seen her season average drop a whole point from 18.3 ppg to 17.3.
Against BU, the Crusaders relied heavily on sophomore Avery LaBarbera, who notched 17 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. The Terriers held Holy Cross to 37.5 percent (21-for-56) from the field and one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country to just 7.1 percent (1-for-14) from beyond on its own court.
Lehigh will take on Holy Cross for the 71st time on Wednesday night, with the Crusaders leading the all-time series between the two squads, 45-25.
The Mountain Hawks fell to Holy Cross the last time out at Stabler Arena, 74-57.
Lauren Manis lead the Crusaders with 29 points and 11 rebounds, while Megan Swords tallied a double-double with 16 points and 16 boards.
Wednesday's action will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network as well as through live audio on Lehighsports.com with Matt Markus on the play-by-play call. The pre-game show begins at 6:50 p.m. ahead of the 7 p.m. tip-off.
