BETHLEHEM, Pa. — There isn't much the Lehigh women's basketball team is doing wrong right now, winners of six straight games and for the first time since the 2004-05 season, 5-0 to kick off Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks continue the season back at Stabler Arena on Saturday afternoon against Bucknell, a battle of undefeated teams atop the Patriot League standings that tips off at 4 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks played another gritty game on the road Wednesday night, just squeaking by Navy in Annapolis, 60-53 after trailing at the end of the second and third quarters.
Lehigh has won seven games on the road this season by an average margin of 7.7 points per game, as opposed to winning six games at home by an average margin of 21.2 points per game.
Against Navy, Lehigh had three players score in double-figures, led by Camryn Buhr's 13 points, 13 for Cameryn Benz and an 11-point night for Megan Walker, who scored in double-figures for the third straight game. Buhr also led the way with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in 36 minutes.
The Mountain Hawks ended the game shooting 38.5 percent (20-for-52) from the field and 32 percent (8-for-25) from beyond-the-arc. Lehigh also converted on 12 of its 16 free throw attemps for a mark of 75 percent.
A win over Bucknell on Saturday would improve the Mountain Hawks' record at Stabler Arena to 7-0 to begin the season and a victory would also extend Lehigh's win streak at home to 10 straight dating back to last season.
A win would also improve Lehigh's overall record to 14-3 for the first time since the 2009-10 season. The Mountain Hawks went on to finish 29-4 with a Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament berth.
Bucknell has established itself as just one of two undefeated teams in the Patriot League at 5-0 along with Lehigh.
The Bison are winners of five straight games, all double-digit wins, most recently a 68-43 victory over American at Sojka Pavilion.
Three Bucknell players scored in double-figures, including senior Ellie Mack, who scored 16 points. Mack has led the Bison in scoring in back-to-back games and seven times overall this year. She also had eight rebounds to pace the team.
Bucknell's defense did its job against the Eagles, forcing 20 turnovers while holding an opponent to under 50 points for the eight time this year.
The Bison led American by as many as 27 points in the third quarter and matched its season high of 19 assists and 13 steals. For the fourth time this year, Bucknell shot better than 50 percent from the floor and held an opponent to under 35 percent shooting for an eighth time.
Bucknell is looking to start Patriot League play 6-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
Saturday will be the 85th all-time matchup between Lehigh and Bucknell, which dates back to Feb. 22, 1977.
The Mountain Hawks lead the all-time series over the Bison, 43-42, although Bucknell as been victorious in eight of the last nine matchups since the 2014-15 season.
