Men's Cross Country Looks To Keep Things Rolling At Colgate

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fresh off a dominating performance in last Friday's Lehigh Invitational, the Lehigh men's cross country team will return to action this weekend. The Brown and White will compete in the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday at 12:15 p.m.
At last Friday's Lehigh Invitational, the Mountain Hawks showed potential with a complete team showing. Lehigh won the race with a low score of 18. The next closest team, Rutgers, compiled a score of 65. Thanks to a late sprint in the final 600 meters, senior Jeffrey Kirshenbaum won the race with a time of 18:34.12.
Running a full squad in the race, Lehigh placed seven runners in the top-10 and 14 runners in the top-20. Seth Slavin finished second for Lehigh with a time of 18:42.18, while Kip Yegon was third Lehigh finisher and fourth overall with a time of 19:05.76.
Head coach Todd Etters was thrilled for his team, "They're excited," stated Etters. "Anytime you can win a meet it's important. It adds a little bit of confidence to your repertoire."
With the race behind them and their eyes looking ahead, the Mountain Hawks will travel to fellow Patriot League member Colgate to preview the Patriot League Championship course. This course will be a different challenge for Lehigh as Colgate's course provides the daunting challenge with numerous hills.
"Colgate's course, I love it," gloated Etters. "In fact, I think it favors our younger runners because in high school you are more used to running on courses that aren't well manicured like golf course type courses."
As a team, Lehigh will be without Seth Slavin this weekend, though the Brown and White are still confident in what they can accomplish. "I love how our guys are curious about how good they can be," stated Etters. "It generates excitement about pushing your limits and breaking through."
With the excitement level high and the challenging hill course ahead, Lehigh came into this week of practices with the same mindset. "Over the course of the season, we're preparing every week to be able to run at Colgate. There's a lot of places around Lehigh that remind me how the course at Colgate is layed out and the hills. For this week in particular, we're focused on getting rested up and being prepared to run a discipline race." said Etters.
Along with Lehigh, the Harry Lang Invitational will welcome in Binghamton, Boston, Bucknell, Colgate, Navy and Syracuse.
With tough challenges from Syracuse and other Patriot League schools, the Mountain Hawks know they have a challenge ahead of them. "Our top guys just have to have a complete pack mindset. We're only going to be as good as our fifth runner." concluded Etters.
