BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of pitcher's duels went the way of visiting Boston University Saturday as the Terriers took two from Lehigh by identical 2-0 scores at Leadership Park. Freshman Parker Boyd battled Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Ali DuBois in game one, but two hit batters in the eighth inning led to the two Terrier runs. In game two Emily Gant won the battle of freshmen against Gabriella Nori with BU scoring single runs in the third and sixth innings.

Saturday's losses drop Lehigh to 11-21 overall and 3-5 in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks' five consecutive Patriot League losses are their most since 1991. The defending Patriot League champion Terriers are now 20-15 overall and 5-0 in the league.

Boyd worked around base runners in each of the first five innings of game one, to match zeroes with DuBois. BU had two runners on in both the third and fourth innings but Boyd worked her way out of trouble. Boyd pitched a perfect sixth and worked around a one-out walk in the seventh to keep the Terriers off the board.

Lehigh picked up singles from freshman Jaelynn Chesson in the second and freshman Carley Barjaktarovich in the fifth but stranded base runners. Junior Mary-Hannah Smith led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, but after a foul out, a fielder's choice and a ground out the game went to extra innings with no score.

A one-out single by Boston University's AJ Huerta-Leipner in the eighth was followed by a fielder's choice and a single, loading the bases for the Terriers. Boyd hit Marina Sylvestri to force in the first run and then hit Nicole Amodio to give BU a 2-0 lead.

DuBois issued a two-out walk in the bottom of the eighth but got junior Hannah Edwards to pop out to end the game as she notched her 14th win of the season.

Boyd took the loss allowing two runs on six hits over eight innings. She struck out eight, walked three, and was hurt by hitting three batters.

Walks did in the Mountain Hawks in game two as both BU runs were a direct result of bases on balls. Nori walked Analisa Ruff to lead off the third and pinch runner Kali Magane scored the first run of the game on a two out triple by Alex Heinen.

Back-to-back one out walks helped Boston University extend its lead in the sixth as Madi Killebrew scored on a pinch hit single by Maya Kipfmiller.

Lehigh finished with five hits and put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh on consecutive one out singles by Smith and Chesson. At that point, DuBois came on in relief to get freshman Addie Kittel to ground into a force play. After walking senior Jennifer Stoll to load the bases, DuBois got Barjaktarovich to ground out to third, with the throw just beating the speedy freshman to end the game.

Nori allowed just four hits but walked five and struck out three in six innings of work. Smith went 2-for-3 in game two and had three of Lehigh's eight hits on the day.

"We played a lot better than our last few games so that's something to build on," Lehigh head coach Fran Troyan said. "For the first time in a while it felt like we were playing Lehigh softball. The fact of the matter is DuBois is the Pitcher of the Year coming back and their freshman is really good too. We need to continue to get better and better and build as we go along.

"It's important for us to battle," Troyan continued. "We're just starting to get our sea legs a little bit. We've had a bunch of injuries. We have people starting to come back and it's important for us to continue to progress."

Lehigh and Boston University will wrap-up their series with a single game Sunday at Leadership Park, with game time set for noon. The game will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
