BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh's eight NCAA qualifiers learned their seeds and first round opponents as seeds and brackets for next week's NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh were announced Wednesday. New this year, all 33 wrestlers in a given weight class were seeded. Four of Lehigh's eight qualifiers, led by sophomore heavyweight Jordan Wood, who is seeded fourth.
Wood, who owns a 21-3 record this season and is coming off a second straight EIWA title at 285, has a challenging opening round match as the No. 29 seed is Iowa All-American Sam Stoll, who has been limited to 14 bouts this season due to injury. Wood and Stoll did not meet in Lehigh's December dual in Iowa City.
Another two-time EIWA champion, junior Jordan Kutler, earned the No. 5 seed at 174. Kutler owns a 21-4 record on the season and will open against No. 28 Jacob Oliver of Edinboro.
EIWA champion Josh Humphreys (157) and senior Ryan Preisch (184) both garnered No. 8 seeds at their respective weight classes. Humphreys' first career NCAA bout will come against No. 25 Justin Ruffin from SIU Edwardsville, while Preisch will face No. 25 Max Lyon of Purdue in round one.
Senior Gordon Wolf is seeded 18th at 165 and will face No. 15 Connor Flynn of Missouri in the opening round. Wolf will be looking to avenge a loss to Flynn at the South Beach Duals to open his third NCAA Tournament.
Three Mountain Hawks were seeded 20th or below at their respective weights. Sophomore Brandon Paetzell will be the first Mountain Hawk on the mats Thursday in Pittsburgh. Paetzell is seeded 20th at 133 and will face No. 13 Austin Gomez of Iowa State.
