Big one Monday night as Lehigh heads to Bucknell for showdown on CBS Sports Network

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a convincing home win over Navy Saturday, the Lehigh men's basketball team returns to action 48 hours later when it travels to Bucknell for a first-place showdown on CBS Sports Network. Monday's contest will tip at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks currently stand 16-7 overall, 9-3 in the Patriot League, one game behind the 10-2 Bison. With a win on Monday, Lehigh would tie Bucknell for first place with five regular-season games remaining.
The Mountain Hawks will look to avenge a tough home defeat vs. Bucknell last month, in a game which saw junior Pat Andree even the score with less than 10 seconds remaining, but Jimmy Sotos came down the other end and finished a tough shot to give the Bison an 85-83 win.
Most recently, Lehigh bounced back from its largest defeat of the season (last Monday vs. Colgate) by picking up its largest margin of victory of the year, defeating Navy 83-57. It marked Lehigh's biggest win against the Midshipmen since a 72-43 final on Feb. 27, 2013. The Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 20-4 lead on Saturday and wouldn't look back. Andree led the way with a game-high 22 points, shooting 5-of-7 from three-point range. His first two treys helped get the run started, coming with 15:26 and 14:44 left in the first half to give Lehigh an 8-2 lead. The Mids would get within 10 on multiple occasions, but Lehigh upped its lead to 21 before taking a 42-23 edge into halftime.
The closest Navy would get in the second half was 13, but the Mountain Hawks doubled that lead by the final horn as Lehigh improved to 24-3 in the month of February dating back to 2016, still tied for first nationally in that span. Along with Andree's 22 points, senior Lance Tejada had 17 to give him 998 for his collegiate career (including his time at East Carolina). Classmate Kyle Leufroy added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists while junior Jordan Cohen filled up the stat sheet with nine points, three rebounds, two assists and a game-high three steals.
Lehigh continued its strong shooting, finishing 46.6 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three (12-of-26), bettering its nation's leading percentage of 44.6 entering the day. The Mountain Hawks' defense also excelled, allowing 57 points to tie a season best (also allowing 57 to Princeton in November). Lehigh held Navy to just 27.9 percent shooting, a season best and the best mark for the Mountain Hawks' D since Jan. 8, 2013 vs. Muhlenberg (20.7 percent) and best against a Division I opponent since Dec. 31, 2008 against NJIT (22.0 percent).
The Mountain Hawks and Bison will renew one of the top mid-major rivalries in college basketball. Out of the 18 teams to reach the Patriot League Championship Game since 2010, eight have been either Lehigh or Bucknell. Only twice in the last nine years has a championship game not featured Lehigh and/or Bucknell. The two teams have split its last 10 head-to-head meetings.
Bucknell has won four straight games to improve to 10-2 in Patriot League play. The first two wins were by double figures (over Navy and Lafayette) before picking up wins by eight and six over Loyola and Boston University this past week. Senior Kimbal Mackenzie has been strong, leading the team in scoring (16.8 points per game) while classmate Nate Sestina is right behind at 16.5 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds per contest. The Bison are second in the league in scoring offense (76.0), only behind the Mountain Hawks, while they're seventh in scoring defense (73.4), one spot ahead of Lehigh.
Despite dropping the January meeting, Lehigh is still 9-7 over its last 16 meetings vs. Bucknell to pull within 104-68 in the all-time series. The teams have split each of the previous two season series, with the last regular-season sweep coming in 2016-17 when the Mountain Hawks won both meetings. Overall, 12 of the last 18 meetings between Lehigh and Bucknell (regardless of location) have been decided by seven points or fewer. Four of the six that have been greater than seven points have been Lehigh victories. Bucknell is Lehigh's second-most played rival of all-time, only behind Lafayette.
Following Monday's game, the Mountain Hawks remain on the road on Saturday at Boston University. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Lehigh's next home game is Wednesday, Feb. 20 vs. Army West Point at 7 p.m.
