HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's cross country team ran a good race on Saturday at the Patriot League Championships. The Mountain Hawks finished fourth with a score of 97 points. The race was held at the Harry H. Lang Cross Country Course at Colgate University.
"Our men ran a tough and gritty race today," stated head coach Todd Etters. "I am very impressed with how they handled the biggest meet of the year. We worked on running as a pack all year long and today our strength was in our pack."
At the end of the race, Lehigh placed four runners inside the top-20.
The Black Knights of Army West Point claimed the gold on Saturday. The Black Knights (37 points) edged out the Naval Academy (40 points) in an exciting race.
"Our game plan was very effective and I thought we ran an extremely patient race," added Etters. "There was never any panic and we made up nearly 100 points from the 1000-meter split to the finish."
Continuing his dominating season, Seth Slavin was once again at the forefront for the Mountain Hawks. Slavin was the first Lehigh finisher, finishing 14th with a time of 25:59.60. With the finish, Slavin earned All-Patriot League Second Team, an honor that was well-deserved.
Another impressive performance on the day came from junior Sean Brown. Brown just missed the list of All-League, as the junior finished 15th with a time of 26:08.80.
Junior Brad DeMassa continued his consistent season, as the junior was the third Lehigh finisher at 17th with a time 26:12.60. Nick Norton, another junior finished a great race on Saturday. Norton finished 19th with a time of 26:12.70.
Rounding out the scoring for the Mountain Hawks, Michael Mitchell finished fifth with a time of 26:42.0. Additional times for Lehigh included a 46th place finish from freshman Connor Melko at 26:59.0, while Kyle Burke was the seventh Lehigh finisher at 49th with a time of 27:05.60.
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in two weeks. The race will be held at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 15
"We are fortunate that we get to host the NCAA Regional meet. We found out a lot about the group of young men we have today and I am confident we will be ready to go when the gun goes off in two weeks." Etters concluded.
