BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a good race at the Patriot League Championships two weeks ago, the Lehigh men's cross country team will look to keep its momentum, as they will host and compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
In all, 27 teams will be competing at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course tomorrow. The Mountain Hawks will start off in the 26th box at the starting line.
"Going into this race, we're just going to stay relaxed and focused," said head coach Todd Etters. "We're going into this race with the same mentality as we had for the Patriot League Championships. We'll put together a race plan that aligns with our strengths and go from there. We're not taking our foot off the gas."
Last time out, the Mountain Hawks enjoyed a successful run at the Patriot League Championships. Lehigh finished fourth at the event with a score of 97 points. The Brown and White managed to place four runners inside the top-20.
Entering tomorrow's race, Lehigh is ranked 11th in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic poll.
"Honestly, the rankings don't mean much to us," said Etters. "We know what teams we're capable of beating and a top-10 finish is realistic for us."
The only difference the Brown and White will face on Friday is the length of the race. Most of the races this season have been 8K races, however tomorrow's Mid-Atlantic Regional race is scheduled to be a 10K.
"Despite the longer race, our training is no different," Etters claimed. "We have to race with the same mental edge as the other races. It's going to hurt more and take more focus, but as long as they stay engaged in the race, their fitness will push them through the tough time."
The Mountain Hawks are led by juniors Seth Slavin and Brad DeMassa. Flurry in senior Jeffrey Kirshenbuam, juniors Sean Brown, Nick Norton, Michael Mitchell and freshmen Connor Melko, the Brown and White have a chance to open some eyes tomorrow.
Last year, Lehigh registered a 15th place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
