BETHLEHEM, Pa. – All six players improved upon their round one score as the Lehigh women's golf team closed out its fall season by shaving 15 strokes off its day one total. Battling cool, drizzly conditions, the Mountain Hawks shot 308 as a team to finish the 10 team tournament in fourth place at 631 (323-308).
"We came back and finished strong today so we'll take a lot of positives into the spring" head coach Mary Kate Lynch said. "I'm proud of how everyone fought today. Everyone fought back and improved on their scores from yesterday. I'm impressed with how everyone did, considering the weather."
Lehigh placed three individuals in the top 15, including two in the top six. Junior Angela Ding led the way, tying for third place at 153 (79-74). Ding carded a tournament-leading seven birdies, including three on Tuesday, and played the par 3s in three under par.
Senior Minuette Laessig shot 76 on Tuesday to finish in sixth place at 154 (78-76). Laessig's 23 pars were second-best in the 56 player field, behind only classmate Rebecca Markunas, who made 25 pars over the two day event and tied for 14th place at 157 (79-78).
Freshman Hannah Foster improved seven strokes from her Monday total, shooting 80 to finish 29th at 167 (87-80). Classmate Iris Shin bounced back after withdrawing from Monday's opening round to shoot 81 on Tuesday.
Freshman Marina Mendez competed as an individual and finished in 50th place at 189 (96-93).
A final round 302 lifted St. John's to the team title with a final total of 615, seven strokes better than runner-up Quinnipiac. The individual medalist was Kaitleen Shee of St. John's, who defeated Queenie Lai of Quinnipiac with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Both players were eight over par 152 through 36 holes.
The Lehigh Invitational marked the final fall event for the Mountain Hawks, who will open their spring season in late February/early March.
"We had an amazing fall," Lynch said. "We played well in every tournament. We shot low 300s in almost every event, so we're looking forward to the spring when everyone is healthy and hopefully get into that top group at the Patriot League Championship."
