Mountain Hawks fourth after day one of Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team opened its Lehigh Invitational with a round of 323 Monday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Seniors Minuette Laessig and Rebecca Markunas and junior Angela Ding led the way for the Mountain Hawks, who sit in fourth place in a 10-team field after the opening 18 holes.
 
Laessig delivered the low score for the Mountain Hawks with a round of six over par 78 as she sits in a tie for eighth place. She opened her back nine with a birdie on 10 and shot even par 36 over her final nine holes.
 
Markunas and Ding both shot 79 and are part of a group tied for 13th place. Laessig and Markunas led the field with 13 pars, while Ding made a team-high four birdies and played the par 3 holes in two under par.
 
Freshman Hannah Foster shot 87 on Monday and sits in 33rd place. Classmate Iris Shin had to withdraw late in her round.
 
Freshman Marina Mendez is competing as an individual and is in 50th place after shooting 96.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson leads the team race with an opening round 312. St. John's is one stroke behind at 313, while Quinnipiac is third at 318.
 
The low round of the day belonged to Victoria Schroedl of FDU, who shot even par 72. She leads three players by three strokes.
 
The Lehigh Invitational concludes Tuesday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Due to the threat of inclement weather, the final round will now be played with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
