Mountain Hawks take three-game win streak to Colgate Wednesday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh men's soccer team heads back on the road on Wednesday in Hamilton, N.Y. against Colgate following a brief stay at home over the weekend. The Mountain Hawks have rattled off three straight victories over American, Penn and Boston University and look to do the same against the three-time defending Patriot League Tournament champion Raiders on Tuesday evening.
Lehigh has seen its offensive stock rise significantly over the last few weeks, though the team has scored at least one goal in each matchup of the regular season so far and scored the most goals on Saturday against BU (4) since 2017.
The Mountain Hawks are led by sophomore forward Josh Luchini, named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, as well as United Soccer Coaches and College Soccer News National Player of the Week for his performances against BU and Penn last week. Luchini notched his first career hat trick against the Terriers on Saturday in Lehigh's come-from-behind victory, and also scored the game-winning tally against the Quakers in Philly on Tuesday. Luchini now has a career-high eight goals on the season and 16 points, leading both his teammates and the entire Patriot League in those categories. Most notably, Luchini has scored a goal in six of Lehigh's eight games this season and is averaging 1.00 goal/game as well as 2.00 points/game.
The man getting the ball to Luchini the most over the last week is fifth-year midfielder Alex Greene, who was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week after he had two assists against BU and an assist against Penn.
The Mountain Hawks are currently averaging 1.75 goals/game this season and 13.3 shots/game while only allowing 1.00 goals/game. While Luchini has been busy doing most of Lehigh's goal scoring this season, four other players have registered at least a goal including Trevor Koski (2), Michael Tahiru (2), Natan Rosen (1) and Stevo Bednarsky (1).
On Tuesday, Lehigh will face Colgate after splitting the season series against the Raiders last year. Colgate was ranked 20th in the nation when the Mountain Hawks defeated them on Oct. 3 of last season, 1-0 before falling to Colgate in the Patriot League semifinals, 2-1 to conclude the season. Surely Lehigh will be looking for revenge on Tuesday on the road in Hamilton for the first time since the 2017 season.
The Raiders have faced stiff competition to open the season, opening the year 0-1-2 against ranked teams, but didn't earn their first victory until Sept. 15 against Monmouth. After drawing Bucknell, 1-1 on Sept. 21 to open Patriot League play, Colgate beat Army West Point on Saturday, 1-0 in a 2018 Patriot League title game rematch. The Raiders are 2-3-4 overall with a 1-0-1 league record. As a team, they have scored just six goals this season so far with Drew Fischer leading the way with two and two assists. Fischer also leads the team with 19 shots, eight of which are on goal. In net, Jacob Harris remains one of the best goalkeepers in the Patriot League with a 0.91 goals against average in nine starts, also carrying a save percentage of .780. Unlike the Mountain Hawks, Colgate's offense hasn't been nearly as consistent, scoring 0.67 goals/game.
Colgate leads the all-time series versus Lehigh, 16-13-7. The last time the two teams faced off in the regular season at Beyer-Small Field, they played to a 4-4 draw after going through two overtime periods.
Tuesday's matchup will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m.
