Lehigh drops Sunday matchup at Georgetown
9/30/2018 4:33:00 PM | Field Hockey
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Lehigh field hockey team wrapped up its weekend in our nation's capital with a 7-1 defeat at Georgetown. Freshman Olivia Perrone scored her second-career goal in the second half to pull the Mountain Hawks within 4-1, but the Hoyas erased any doubt with the final three goals of the game.
Â
"We have continued to face a lot of adversity throughout this season and though this weekend was certainly a low point on the scoreboard, it doesn't reflect the persistence and efforts of the team," said Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "The focus on persisting through challenging times, and continuing to strive for progress, can be seen on the field. That is a true testament to the efforts of this team and the adjustments they have made culturally to maintain this mindset."
Â
The Mountain Hawks held a 4-3 edge in first-half penalty corners, but Georgetown finished with a 6-2 advantage in shots. Three found the back of the cage to give the Hoyas a 3-0 halftime lead.
Â
The advantage reached 4-0 early in the second, but Perrone scored her second-career goal at the 47:07 mark off a penalty corner. Georgetown went on to score two goals in 14 seconds in the 57th minute to erase any doubt.
Â
Final shots were 14-4 in favor of Georgetown while the Hoyas finished with an 8-5 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Stephanie Brabender made five saves for the Mountain Hawks.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will return home for their last four home games of the season, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 6 against Holy Cross. Gametime is set for 11 a.m.
