PHILADELPHIA – Following a solid performance on the Schuylkill River Friday, all three of Lehigh men's rowing's boats have advanced to Saturday's final day at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta. Earlier on Friday, all three advanced to the semifinals, where the Varsity Eight placed fourth to reach the petite final. Meanwhile, Lehigh's Second Varsity Eight and Junior Varsity Four advanced to Saturday's third-level finals.
"Our men raced really hard today," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "I just think the competition for the Dad Vail this year is incredibly difficult. We rose to the occasion in terms of our best racing, but there are some really fast crews this year and we're hoping to knock a couple of them off tomorrow."
The Varsity Eight finished in 12th place in its morning time trial with a time of 5:32.125. They went on to place fourth out of six boats in its semifinal, posting a time of 5:52.066. Lehigh's Second Varsity Eight came in 12th with a time of 5:50.857 before finishing its semifinal in 6:19.651. The Junior Varsity Four finished in 15th in its morning heat (6:50.786) before posting a time of 7:20.864 in the semifinal.
"The Varsity Eight really went toe-to-toe with Michigan, UVA and Drexel in their semifinal, which was great to see," said Conley. "We're hoping to step it up a little bit more tomorrow."
The Second Varsity Eight is in action at 8:45 a.m. Saturday while the Junior Varsity Four is set for a 9:35 a.m. race. The Varsity Eight will wrap up the day at 4:50 p.m. For more information, please check out the Dad Vail Regatta website, here.
