
Kersey Earns Academic All-District Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball senior Chris Kersey has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 2 Baseball Team for his for his outstanding athletic and academic achievements, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include student-athletes who are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 2 Baseball Team is comprised of student-athletes from schools located in Delaware, Dist. of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Kersey, a 2018 Academic All-Patriot League selection, boasts a 3.71 GPA in the elite Industrial and Systems Engineering and IBE Finance program. He has been a five-time Dean's List (3.6 GPA) member throughout his career, including the last four semesters leading into his final term at Lehigh. He posted a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester of 2017 while he compiled a breakout season on the field as he led the team with a .429 on-base percentage in his first season as a full-time starter.

Coming off an outstanding junior campaign, Kersey put together a stellar senior season as he compiled some of the best offensive numbers in the Patriot League this season. The Lehigh second baseman ranked fourth in the league in batting average (.335), ninth in slugging percentage (.451) and fourth in on-base percentage (.435), while compiling the third-most runs (43), fifth-most hits (58) fourth-most doubles (14), fifth-most total bases (78) and sixth-most stolen bases (10). He also recorded five hits in a game (twice) and scored five runs in a game this season, which were both single-game highs by a Patriot League player this year.

The 11-member Academic All-District® 2 Team averaged a 3.84 GPA with four members owning a 4.00 GPA, the most of any of the eight districts. Kersey's 3.71 GPA was the second-highest among the four infielders selected to the team. The Lehigh senior also compiled the second-highest slugging percentage and on-base percentage among the infielders, while owning the best batting average and on-base percentage among the Patriot League players selected to the team.

Kersey and the other Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.

Kersey is just the second the Mountain Hawk in program history to earn Academic All-District® honors, joining former All-American second baseman and current hitting coach, Mike Garzillo '16.
