KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Lehigh track and field team had five athletes conclude competition on Friday evening at the two-day Mondschein Multi. Sophomore Kyle Sult set a personal record and placed seventh as Lehigh's lone representative in the decathlon, breaking his own meet record in the javelin and hitting four new personal records in the process. The Brown and White also had four women representing the team at the heptathlon, with freshmen Maddy Harding (two PRs) and Noa Levy (four PRs) both running their first heptathlons. Sophomore Monica McGavin scored a new hep PR by topping the 3,000-point mark while setting event PRs, and junior Tyler Bannister broke a meet record in the high jump and led Lehigh with over 4,100 points.
Sult concluded with 5,924 points, finishing seventh out of 13 overall. On Thursday's first day of competition, Sult crossed the finish in 11.88 seconds (PR) in the 100m dash, leapt 6.20m (PR) in the long jump and 1.83 in the high jump. He also threw 10.52m in the shot put and sprinted to a personal record 54.57-second finish in the 400m dash. On Friday, he broke his own meet record in the javelin at 63.02 meters (PR), surpassing his 55.74m mark from 2017. Blowing away the competition to win the javelin, the distance on his throw was 10.07 meters further than the next closest finisher.
The Lehigh women had two athletes compete in both the maroon and white brackets of the heptathlon. Bannister (4,142) and Harding (4,078) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the maroon event. Bannister crossed the finish in personal record time of 15.75 seconds in the 100m hurdles and 28.76 in the 200m. She picked up a victory in the high jump after clearing 1.67 meters, which broke her own meet record from last season by one centimeter. She went on to take third in the shot put at 10.06m. On Friday, she returned to post a 4.66m long jump and 31.84m javelin throw.
Competing in her first heptathlon, Harding ran 15.48m (PR) in the hurdles, cleared 1.46m in the high jump, threw a 20-centimeter PR of 8.80m in the shot and finished the first day with a time of 27-seconds even in the 200m. Her second day was highlighted by a second place PR of 32.69m in the javelin.
In the white heptathlon event, McGavin, totaled 3,693 points (7th of 15) after finishing off day two with a 4.78 meter (PR) long jump, a 23.33m (PR) javelin throw, and a time of 2:32.29 in the 800m where she finished in runner-up, less than a quarter of a second shy of her PR. She kicked off the meet on Thursday by hurdling 100m in 16.77 (PR) and ran 28.88 in the 200m (PR).
