STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore Jeffrey Kirshenbaum hit an IC4A qualifying mark with his performance in the 3,000m run, and junior Ryan Givens had a pair of runner-up finishes in the long jump and high jump at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday evening. Senior Michael Gooding also added a podium finish in the triple jump for the Mountain Hawks. The meet, hosted by Villanova at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex in Staten Island, was one of two meets for Lehigh on Saturday as the team also had several competitors at the DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg.

Kirshenbaum raced to a second place finish in the 3K and an IC4A qualifying time of 8:15.07, which was also a new collegiate PR and ranks him fourth in the Patriot League this indoor season. He was joined in the top five by fellow Mountain Hawks Patrick Reilly (8:28.96) in fifth and Samuel Layding in sixth, who hit a new PR of 8:29.23.

Kyle Kirk set a new personal record in the 800m dash of 1:54.94 to finish 15th overall, moving him into the top 10 in the Patriot League this season. In the mile, Matt Kravitz placed sixth in 4:08.52, coming within 0.12 seconds of his PR while also hitting an IC4A qualifying mark. Senior Ryan Grace followed just behind him in 10th place, hitting a new PR in the process of 4:15.64, and junior Kyle Berman also PR-ed in 4:25.75 with his 25th place showing.
Elsewhere on the track, the 4x400 relay team of Emre Soybas, Kravitz, Sean Brown and Kirk combined on a fourth place finish after winning section two in 3:24.83. Michael Camera (22.64) led the way in the 200m dash in 13th place.

In the field events, Givens earned runner-up after clearing 2.02m in the high jump for his second highest score of the indoor season. He paired that with another runner-up finish on the day in the long jump at 6.95m. Lehigh also earned a podium finish in the triple jump from Gooding, who leapt 13.48 meters to take home third place overall.

Over at the DeSchriver Invitational, freshman Justin Brown (6.39m) tallied a fourth place finish out of 33 athletes in the long jump, and Erik Metz (12.92m) took home fifth place out of 17 in the triple jump.
Lehigh will compete in its final meet of the regular season next Friday (Feb. 9) at the Bucknell Tune-Up. It will serve as the final go-around before the Patriot League Championships Feb. 17-18.
