Red-hot Mountain Hawks set to host Army Saturday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a season-high five-game winning streak, three of which were on the road, the Lehigh men's basketball team returns home on Saturday to host Army West Point. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Service Electric Channel 50 in the Lehigh Valley and online through the Patriot League Network. Most recently, the Mountain Hawks picked up an impressive 88-78 win at second-place Colgate to hand the Raiders just their third home defeat of the season.

With Wednesday's win and Boston University's loss at American, Lehigh jumped into a tie for fourth place in the league standings. Standing 8-7 in Patriot League play, the Mountain Hawks are just one game behind both Colgate and Navy, who are tied for second at 9-6. Lehigh improved to 4-0 this February and 19-2 in the month of February since the beginning of the 2015-16 season. The Mountain Hawks' third straight road win marks their longest road streak since February of 2016 when they won five straight away from home.

Tickets for Saturday's game are FREE with a Lehigh ID and as low as $5 for the general public. Lehigh students can take the Campus Connector bus to the game, with buses set to leave at 6:30 p.m. from Packer Ave. and 6:34 from Alpha Phi. Freshman Marques Wilson led Lehigh's offense, returning from missing last Saturday's game due to illness and scoring a career-high 28 points. He missed just one shot all game, hitting 9-of-10 field goals (which included 3-of-3 from three-point range) and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Wilson added seven rebounds to help the Mountain Hawks hold a 36-28 edge on the boards. Sophomore Pat Andree finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for his third-career double-double, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Junior Kyle Leufroy filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. He is now up to 965 career points, looking to become the 35th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Senior Kahron Ross posted 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ross now has 48 points over his last two games, shooting 21-of-34 from the floor.

As a team, Lehigh knocked down 9-of-17 from three-point range, good for its sixth straight game at 50 percent or better. It did snap the Mountain Hawks' streak of eight straight games with double-figure makes. Overall, the Mountain Hawks are shooting 53.3 percent over their last six games (65-of-122).

Lehigh found multiple ways to score on Wednesday, beginning by knocking down 6-of-12 threes in the first half. In the second, Lehigh was just 3-of-5 from distance while taking advantage of drives to the net and mid-range jumpers. The Mountain Hawks knocked down 17-of-26 second-half shots (65.4 percent), including 14-of-21 from two-point range (66.7 percent). Wilson scored 19 second-half points while Ross scored 11. As a team, Lehigh scored 48 points, fourth most in a half this season and third most against a Division I school. The Mountain Hawks' season high for points in a half was 56 at Boston University.

With Wednesday's win, head coach Brett Reed has reached 99-career Patriot League victories as his overall career record is now 195-145. This Saturday, the Mountain Hawks will look to avenge a 93-81 loss at Army West Point. The Black Knights opened up a 24-point first-half lead, Lehigh quickly got back into the game in the second half, but couldn't get any closer than seven.

Army has struggled as of late, having dropped six of its last seven games with its lone win coming against American. Most recently, the Black Knights dropped a 70-65 final vs. Holy Cross, one game after falling to Navy, 68-59. Jordan Fox leads the team in scoring (14.0 points per game) while Matt Wilson comes in at 12.7 per contest and Tommy Funk averages 9.9 to go with a league-leading 5.8 assists per contest. Lehigh and Army stand 2-3 in the Patriot League in scoring offense (77.3 and 75.2 points, respectively). The teams are 1-2 in three-point field goal percentage; the Mountain Hawks come in at No. 1 (41.5 percent) with Army West Point at No. 2 (39.4 percent).

Army defeated the Mountain Hawks on Jan. 20 to snap Lehigh's three-game winning streak in the series and give the Black Knights a 64-42 all-time lead. Last season, Lehigh defeated Army 66-59 on the road and 83-69 at home. Only one of the last four meetings between the two sides have come in Bethlehem. The Mountain Hawks have won two of the last three home meetings at Lehigh, also picking up an impressive 103-74 win on Feb. 4, 2015. Despite the Jan. 20 defeat, the Mountain Hawks have still won five of their last seven against Army. The first meeting between the two sides came in 1906-07, a 26-24 Lehigh victory. Army won the next matchup in 1914-15 by a 19-6 final.

Following Saturday's game, Lehigh heads to Loyola next Wednesday night (Feb. 21) for its final regular season home game. The Mountain Hawks wrap up the regular season by hosting archrival Lafayette on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
