PRINCETON, N.J. — The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team competed well in the first day of the Big Al Invitational at Princeton University on Friday morning/evening, with a ton of positives heading into the second day of competition on Saturday.
Â
Sophomore Ann Foley dominated in her events, out-racing swimmers from Duke, Penn State, Northwestern and Princeton.
Â
Foley finished first in the 50 yard freestyle event, with a 23.32, in front of Malorie Han from Northwestern and Duke's Maddie Hess. She also came in first place in the 200 free with a final time of 1:48.04, beating out Duke's Melissa Fish and fellow teammate, senior Courtney Ferreira.
Â
As for records to be broken, the women got mighty close to smashing records in their events on Friday, but perhaps Saturday will be the day that will come through for the team.
Â
Sophomore Anna Francisco just missed out on breaking the school record for the 100 backstroke by .01 seconds, finishing with a time of 55.76. The record is held by Rachel Rider, who set the record of 55.75 in 2018.
Â
Freshman Malia Wolf also almost took down a school record in the 100 butterfly, swimming to a time of 55.47. The record of 55.22 was set by Kelly Carroll in 2017.
Â
The women finished fourth out of the five schools with a team score of 446.
Â
The team is back in action on Saturday in Day 2 of the Big Al Invitational.
Â
The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+ (Subscription Required) at 10 a.m.
