BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Aided by steady, consistent play across its lineup, the Lehigh women's golf team won its third consecutive team title at its own Lehigh Invitational, which wrapped-up Monday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks entered the day with a one stroke lead on St. John's and shot 312, matching Fairleigh Dickinson for the low team round of the tournament to claim a two stroke victory over the Knights. Lehigh finished at 629 (317-312), while FDU was second at 631. Navy claimed third place at 634.
"The course played a little differently than we're used to seeing so it was definitely a bit of a shock, but we were able to fight through," Lehigh head coach Mary Kate Lynch said. "We started poorly but finished strong, but I'm proud of how everyone finished down the stretch and we were able to pull it out on the back nine."
Individually, the Mountain Hawks were led by senior Reagan Jahn who carded a final round 74 to finish second overall at 150 (76-74). Jahn tied for the field lead with five birdies over the 36-hole tournament, including four in Monday's final round, and played the par 4 holes in a field-best two over par for the weekend.
Kaitleen Shee of St. John's was the individual medalist, finishing one stroke better than Jahn at five over par 149 (74-75).
Junior Minuette Laessig also delivered a top 10 finish, tying for eighth place at 157 (79-78).
The remainder of Lehigh's lineup was incredibly consistent from day one to day two. Senior Aileen Jeong and freshman Alexis Carras both tied for 15th place at 161 with both players shooting 81 on Sunday and 80 on Monday.
Sophomore Angela Ding shot back-to-back rounds of 85 to tie for 37th place at 170.
Competing as an individual, junior Rebecca Markunas finished one stroke out of the top 10, tying for 12th place at 159 (76-83). Sophomore Alexis Browne shaved four strokes off her Sunday score, shooting 85 on Monday to tie for 47th place at 174 (89-85).
Monday's win capped a fall season that also saw Lehigh finish third out of nine teams at Towson, second out of six at Bucknell and tied for fifth out of 12 at Brown.
"The fall went great," Lynch said. "We had success in every tournament and we hope to carry that momentum into the spring."
Lehigh will open its spring campaign in early March.
