
Lehigh set to host Bucknell in final regular season home game Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Riding two straight Patriot League victories, the Lehigh women's soccer team looks to make it three in a row when the Mountain Hawks host Bucknell Wednesday evening. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on the Patriot League Network. Wednesday marks the Mountain Hawks' final regular season home game. Currently tied for sixth in the league standings, a win over Bucknell Wednesday would keep Lehigh alive for a top four seed and home game in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.

Lehigh is now 2-4-0 in league play, tied with Holy Cross for the sixth and final league tournament spot. Army West Point is one point ahead at 2-3-1 in fifth place while Bucknell is currently in fourth at 4-2-0. If the Mountain Hawks win on Wednesday, it would move them within one game of fourth place with two to go (after Wednesday). Lehigh is vying for a third straight Patriot League Tournament berth overall.

The Mountain Hawks are coming off an impressive 4-1 win over archrival Lafayette Saturday night. The four goals were Lehigh's most-ever scored against Lafayette. It marked Lehigh's most in any game since a 4-0 win over LIU Brooklyn on Aug. 26, 2016 and most in a Patriot League contest since a 4-0 victory vs. Holy Cross on Oct. 27, 2012. Lehigh's three goals in the first half was its most in a half since scoring three (also in the first half) at Bucknell on Oct. 22, 2016. Lehigh's 15 shots on goal were its most since recording 16 vs. Holy Cross on Oct. 27, 2012. Lehigh ended the game with a 22-3 edge in shots (15-3 in shots on goal), scoring three goals before the game was 20 minutes old.

Senior Sabrina Mertz led the offense with a career-high five points behind two goals and one assist. The assist came on a Courtney Supp goal just 2:01 into the contest while Mertz added goals at 10:48 (just 18 seconds after Lafayette pulled even) and 19:50. Junior Annika Jansa added her first goal of the season at 82:11 for the 4-1 final. Junior goalkeeper Sam Miller made two saves in the victory.

Defending Patriot League Champion Bucknell stands 6-8-1 on the season, 4-2-0 in Patriot League play. The Bison opened their league slate with a 2-0 defeat to Lafayette, also falling vs. Colgate last time out, 2-0. In between, Bucknell picked up league wins over American (2-1), Loyola (1-0), Holy Cross (1-0) and Army West Point (3-1). Leading the team with six points is Kate Henesey (two goals, two assist), Jenna Marek (three goals) and Holly Burns (two goals, two assists). Theresa Adu-Attobrah has started 14-of-15 games, owning a 0.98 GAA and 0.854 save percentage.

Lehigh and Bucknell have been very competitive in the all-time series, especially as of late. The Bison lead 15-11-3, with the first meeting coming in 1991, a 3-1 Bucknell victory. Lehigh's first win was in 1992 by a 2-0 final. Since 2010, the teams are tied, 4-4-1. The last time the teams played at Lehigh was 2015, a 3-0 Bucknell victory. Lehigh did beat Bucknell the following season, defeating a then undefeated Bison team 3-2.
