Mountain Hawks set for Monday night matchup on CBS Sports Network

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's basketball team looks to snap a four-game losing streak when it travels to Holy Cross for a nationally-televised showdown against the Crusaders on Monday night. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. The Mountain Hawks have had a chance in every game of their four-game skid, but have fallen just short. Last time out, Lehigh posted a late 12-0 run to take a three-point lead, but Navy scored the final five points of the game to come out victorious.

The Midshipmen led for much of Saturday's game, taking as much as a 12-point lead with 12:24 left in the second half. That's when the Mountain Hawks staged a furious 14-0 run, capped off by a Kyle Leufroy three to even the score at 58 then a Leufroy fastbreak layup to give Lehigh a 60-58 lead. Navy went on to reopen a nine-point, 72-63 lead with 4:55 on the clock, but a 12-0 Mountain Hawk run featured nine free throws and a Pat Andree three-pointer, giving Lehigh a 75-72 lead with 1:13 on the clock. On the other end, Navy's Shawn Anderson converted two layups in the final minute and a potential game-winning three-pointer from Andree in the final seconds looked halfway down, but rimmed out.

Saturday was the latest of some heartbreaking defeats for the Mountain Hawks.Last Wednesday, Lehigh led Loyola by as much as 17 and led the Greyhounds by 11 heading into the final five minutes, but Loyola came back to win in double overtime. The previous Wednesday (Jan. 17), Lehigh came back from a 28-point first-half deficit to pull as close as two and three days later, the Mountain Hawks trimmed a 24-point Army lead down to seven with multiple chances to pull even closer in the final five minutes. Lehigh's four-game losing streak is its longest since dropping seven straight to begin the 2015-16 season.

Juniors Lance Tejada and Leufroy led Lehigh's offense on Saturday, scoring 29 of their combined 35 points in the second half. Tejada reached 20 points for the seventh time this season, scoring 20, which included 4-of-6 from three-point range. Leufroy broke out with 15 points off the bench, knocking down all of his three-pointers. As a team, Lehigh hit 12-of-22 three-pointers (54.5 percent), but the Mountain Hawks had four more turnovers (15 compared to Navy's 11) and the Mids finished with a 28-25 edge in rebounds, including a 10-5 advantage in offensive boards.

Lehigh's three-point shooting has continued to impress, shooting 44.2 percent from distance in Patriot League play - by far No. 1 in the league. The only other team above 40 percent in league games is Boston University (41.1). Andree and Tejada are 1-2 in the Patriot League for three-point percentage in league games; Andree is shooting 52.2 percent (35-of-67) while Tejada is shooting 50.8 percent (33-of-65). For the season, Tejada is at 48.9 percent, also tops in the league.

Monday marks Lehigh's first of two CBS Sports Network games, each coming on consecutive Mondays. Lehigh will host Boston University on Saturday before welcoming Bucknell next on Feb. 5 on the network.

Holy Cross began Patriot League play 0-3, but is 4-3 over its last seven games. In that stretch, the Crusaders have beaten Loyola and Army West Point at home while most recently, winning their last two games - at American and home vs. Lafayette. Jehyve Floyd leads Holy Cross in scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.6 points and 5.5 boards, respectively. Karl Charles comes in at 9.8 and 2.8 while Caleb Green has scored 9.0 points per game and Austin Butler is averaging 8.9. Most recently, Butler broke out for 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting in Saturday's win over the Leopards. Holy Cross is last in the league in scoring offense (63.3), but stands second in scoring defense (69.4).

After splitting a pair of meeting last season, Lehigh won the first meeting this year, 83-77 to pull within 41-22 in the all-time series. The Mountain Hawks outscored the Crusaders 54-22 in the middle stages of the game to create separation before holding off a late Holy Cross charge. The home team has won each of the last three meetings overall. After the Mountain Hawks won 68-51 last January, the Crusaders responded by winning 61-45 the following month. Overall, Lehigh is just 3-21 over its last 24 games at Holy Cross, but all three victories have come in the last eight seasons (3-6 record in that span). Two years ago, Lehigh earned an 87-66 win, marking its largest-ever margin of victory at Holy Cross in program history. Lehigh and Holy Cross first met in 1976, an 84-60 Holy Cross victory, before reconvening for Patriot League play in the early 1990s.
