BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After consecutive home games, the Lehigh men's basketball team is set to hit the road on Saturday when it travels to Army West Point to face the Black Knights. Opening tipoff is set for 2 p.m. on the Patriot League Network. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a tough 76-72 defeat against Colgate on Wednesday which saw them go down by as many as 28 points late in the first half before responding to pull as close as two in the final minute.
Â
Colgate opened a 50-22 advantage heading into the final two minutes of the first half. Lehigh put together a quick 10-0 run to pull within 50-32 following 20 minutes then continued the run in the second, quickly trimming the deficit to 14 with 16:10 on the clock then nine with 9:36 remaining. Still trailing by 10 (72-62) heading into the final three minutes, Lehigh made a late 12-2 surge, beginning with Pat Andree's fourth three-pointer of the game (and third of the half, in three attempts) and ending with a Kahron Ross layup to pull within 74-72 with 21 seconds remaining. On the other end, sophomore Jordan Cohen made an impressive block, but the Raiders regained possession, and knocked down two free throws to all but wrap up the victory. In the end, Lehigh outscored Colgate 50-24 after being outscored 50-22 to begin the game.
Â
Andree finished with a season-high 24 points, marking the second time in his career he's eclipsed 20 (along with his 30-point effort vs. Saint Francis Pa. last season). Junior Lance Tejada had 14 points, which included 4-of-9 from three-point range (and 3-of-5 in the second half). He continues to be near the top of the Patriot League in three-point percentage, connecting on 46.8 percent for the season (52-of-111). Meanwhile, Andree is up to 43.0 percent for the year, including a blistering 56.0 percent in Patriot League play (28-of-50). The Mountain Hawks were 7-of-11 from distance in the second half, helping them get right back into the game.
Â
Also on Wednesday, junior Kyle Leufroy added 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists and a steal while Ross had nine points and three assists. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak against Colgate, also snapping a seven-game home winning streak vs. Patriot League opponents. Prior to Wednesday, the Mountain Hawks' previous loss at home vs. a league foe came last Jan. 30 against Boston University.
