BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team has continued to rack in the weekly awards as on Monday, junior Clare Severe was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week while freshman Ally Friedman won Rookie of the Week. Lehigh is coming off a 2-0 win at Army West Point Saturday in the Patriot League opener for both sides. The weekly awards are the Mountain Hawks' eighth and ninth of the season, in just five weeks.

Severe's honor is the second of her career after also garnering Defensive Player of the Week last September. Severe is Lehigh's second Midfielder of the Week honoree this season (along with sophomore Annika Jansa, who's won it twice). Senior Alyssa Riporti and Amanda Stratton have each been named Defensive Player of the Week while sophomore Sam Miller has won Goalkeeper of the Week three times.

Severe dished an assist in Saturday's win in West Point while she played a key role in Lehigh's defensive efforts as well. The assist came in the 63rd minute as she served a ball into the box, which junior Sabrina Mertz finished to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 advantage. Meanwhile, the Mountain Hawks' defense allowed just one shot on goal all game (and none over the final 86:54). The one shot on goal was a season low for Army (its previous low was three).

Meanwhile, Friedman opened the scoring on Saturday with a huge goal (the first of her career) with just two seconds remaining in the first half as she put home a shot near the top of the box following a corner kick. The goal helped propel the Mountain Hawks to their fourth road win of the season (compared to just one loss). Lehigh is now 3-0-1 over its last four Patriot League openers.

In addition, Riporti earned honorable mention recognition after helping spearhead Lehigh's defense, which posted its fourth shutout of the season and 16th since the beginning of the 2016 season.

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Monday when they head to UMBC to face the Retrievers. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Lehigh will then return home on Saturday to host Boston University at 4 p.m.
