Mountain Hawks Wrap Up Competition at the Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team competed in its final meet before the Patriot League Championships on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks were victorious in five different events at the Lehigh Games at the Goodman Campus Track as Ashleigh Crawford, Melody Walthers, Jordan Otto, Amanda Youngblood and the 4x400 relay team all earned wins at the meet.

Lehigh landed three in the top 10 of the 100m dash with Leah Ferguson taking second place (12.80), Liyala Dickens in fourth and Iman Mosley in ninth (13.06). Ferguson also led the way for Lehigh in the 200m dash in third place, crossing the finish in 25.81 (PR). Dickens (8th/26.20), Ruffing (9th/26.21) and Brooke Schaeffer (10th/26.22) also competed in the 200m and finished in the top 10.

Four Lehigh runners landed in the top 10 of the 400m, led by Schaeffer in second place (58.33), Kaitlyn Ruffing in seventh (1:00.50), Lindsay Voltz (1:00.62) in eighth and Rachel Okun (1:00.98) in ninth.

Lehigh had a very strong showing in the 800m dash, sweeping spots two through four with Marissa Karl (2nd/2:11.62), Clare Severe (3rd/2:12.39) and Hanna Brosky (4th/2:12.90) all setting new personal bests. Junior Laura Barnes also landed in the top 10 with a sixth place finish (2:14.62), as did Brenna Clark (9th/2:15.64) and Mary Casey (10th/2:16.46).

Crawford and Hannah Bonaguidi powered ahead of the field to take the top two spots in the 1500m run, with Crawford winning in 4:42.23 and Bonaguidi taking second (4:42.53).

Ashley Strysko was the highest placing collegiate runner in 5K, finishing second overall (19:13.85). The Mountain Hawks also earned a win courtesy of the 4x400 meter relay squad.

Natalie Jacobs and Noreen Byrne rounded out the top five of the 100m hurdles with Jacobs in fourth (15.25) and Byrne in fifth (15.31).

In the field events, Lehigh swept the top three podium spots in the javelin, with Walthers leading the way in personal record fashion at 44.35 meters. Freshman Hannah Patrick took second place at 41.30m and Meghan Reilly came in third (39.90m).

Paige Grossman led Lehigh in the hammer throw (6th/47.87), followed by Michaela Bubak (7th/46.56m) and Youngblood (9th/44.10m). The same trio paced Lehigh in the discus, with Youngblood winning the event at 44.66m to set a new personal record. Grossman placed fifth overall (39.18m), one spot ahead of Bubak (37.53m). Youngblood also led Lehigh in the shot put with a fourth place tally of 13.33m.

In the jumps, Lehigh swept the podium and took four of the top five places overall, with Otto leading the way at 1.65 meters, Brittany Le Jouan in second (1.60m) and Alexis Wintle in third (1.60m). Olivia Reinold rounded out the top five (1.55m).

In the triple jump, Courtney Wu (11.30m) and Kiana Wright (11.21m) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. In the long jump, Lehigh alum and assistant coach Brooke Astor took home the top prize with a 5.43-meter leap, with Wright (5.26m) finishing seventh and Wu (5.12m) in eighth.

With the regular season now in the books, the Mountain Hawks will focus on next weekend's Patriot League Championships. Lehigh will host the championship meet at the Goodman Campus Track on Friday-Saturday, May 5-6.
